Midea recalls 1.7 million air conditioners over potential mold risk

Midea is recalling 1.7 million air conditioning units because a drainage problem could expose consumers to mold.

Water can pool in the appliance maker’s U Window Air Conditioner and U+ Window Air Conditioner units, possibly leading to mold growth, Midea said in a recall notice posted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Mold can cause respiratory issues and other infections.

The CPSC has received at least 152 reports from consumers of mold buildup in the Midea AC units, according to the alert. Of those, there have been 17 reports of users experiencing respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing and sneezing, or sore throats as a result of mold exposure.

Along with the units sold in the U.S., nearly 46,000 were sold in Canada.

The Midea products were sold under a range of brand names, including Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire and Sea Breeze, according to the recall notice. A range of makes and models, measuring 22 inches wide by 14 inches high, are under recall (See the full list of affected model numbers.)

The recalled air conditioners were sold at a variety of retailers, including Best Buy, Costco and Home Depot, from March 2020 through May of this year and retailed for between $280 and $500.

Owners of the affected units are instructed to contact Midea for a full refund or a free repair. The company will provide a free shipping label for customers to send their units back to Midea. Alternatively, they can submit a photograph demonstrating that they have cut the unit’s power cord to receive a refund.

BowFlex adjustable dumbbells recalled after more than 100 dislodging injuries

BowFlex is recalling millions of units of its adjustable dumbbells because their weight plates can dislodge and cause injury to users.

The recall comes after over 100 reports of injuries including concussions, abrasions, broken toes or contusions, according to the CPSC.

The dumbbells are popular because of their versatility: They allow users to lift dumbbells of different weights, without owning a full set of individually weighted dumbbells, which would take up a lot of space.

A total of 3,844,200 units of the product are being recalled, according to a notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Thursday. That includes 3.7 million units that were sold by Nautilus Inc. Nautilus changed its corporate name to BowFlex in 2023.

BowFlex filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2024 and was acquired by Johnson Health Tech Retail, which will refund customers for the dumbbells’ purchase price in the form of a voucher or for replacement units, so long as they were purchased from Johnson Health Tech Trading.

For customers who purchased the dumbbells from BowFlex, formerly Nautilus, consumers may request a refund in the form of a prorated voucher. They are also eligible to receive a one year digital fitness membership through Johnson Health Tech Trading. Johnson Health Tech Trading is reaching out to its customers directly, according to the recall notice.

Consumer Reports, the nonprofit consumer product testing organization, said the company’s remedy is insufficient. “Consumers should be able to receive their money back in full, no strings attached,” she said in a statement to ConsumerReports.com.

The recalled dumbbell sets, called the “BowFlex 552, 52.5-lb Adjustable Dumbbells,” and the “BowFlex 1090, 90-lb Adjustable Dumbbells,” were sold in pairs and as single units. The black weights came with handles, weight plates and a plastic storage tray. The 1090 dumbbells could be adjusted to weigh between 10 and 90 pounds.

The CPSC is urging owners of the recalled dumbbells to stop using them immediately, and to seek out a refund. Consumers can fill out a claim form here

Hormel Foods Corporation is recalling over 256,000 pounds of canned beef stew nationwide due to potential contamination with wood fragments, according to federal health officials.

In a recall notice posted Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said the 20-oz. metal cans containing “Dinty Moore Beef Stew” were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The recalled products have a “FEB 2028” best by date, lot code “T02045” and establishment number “EST 199G” printed on the can.

“The problem was discovered after the establishment notified FSIS that they had received three consumer complaints reporting pieces of wood in the beef stew product,” the notice read.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of injury.

“Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider,” the notice continued.

And for consumers who have this product at home, the FSIS recommends throwing it away or returning it to the place of purchase.

Earlier this year, “wood-like” materials were also found in some Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals, prompting parent company Nestle to recall these products.

Over 100,000 kitchen faucets sold on Amazon recalled due to harmful levels of lead exposure

More than 100,000 kitchen faucets have been recalled because they could lead to dangerous levels of lead exposure according to three separate notices posted Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Three different faucets models, manufactured in China and sold under the brands Vfauosit, Kicimpro and Basdehen, were determined unsafe after tests revealed they contain lead that could leak into the water supply and cause harm to young infants and children. No injuries have been reported thus far.

Lead ingestion can “cause harmful neurological effects on infants and young children, including attention-related behavioral problems, decreased cognitive performance and lower IQ,” the CPSC says in the recall notices.

The recalled faucets were sold for roughly $40 on Amazon.com between January 2024 and May 2025 by vendors Whisper08, Kicimpro and Chenfeng Store. The recalls, issued on May 29, affect an estimated 103,000 products. Amazon and two of the vendors are contacting known customers who purchased the items directly to notify them of the recall.

Consumers with the faucets are advised to stop using them immediately and to reach out to the vendor for a refund. Consumers will have to provide a photograph of disposal to get their money back, all three vendors state in their respective recall notices.

“Until these faucets can be replaced, consumers should only consume water from the faucets after running the water for 15 seconds,” the CPSC advises.

Affected products:

  • VFAUOSIT Kitchen Faucets; model number 06BNV; pull-down sprayer, brushed nickel, stainless steel modern, high-arc, single-handle, single-hole, pull-out kitchen faucet for bar, laundry, RV utility sink; 29,000 units
  • KICIMPRO Kitchen Faucets; model number KM800-01-06BN; pull-down sprayer, brushed nickel, high-arc, single-handle sink faucet with water lines, commercial modern RV stainless steel, grifos de cocina; about 50,000 units
  • BASDEHEN Kitchen Faucets; model number CFDTTH-000-YGH; matte black single-handle kitchen faucets with 360° swivel, spring spout design, detachable spray, optional mounting plate and single-hole installation; about 24,000 units

Customers can identify if they have a recalled product by searching their Amazon purchase history for the name of the product, “Vfauosit” for example, along with “kitchen faucet.”

Ford recalls more than 1 million vehicles over rearview camera glitch

Ford Motor is recalling nearly 1.1 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles because of a software problem that could cause the rearview camera image to malfunction when the car is in reverse, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said

“A frozen rear-view camera display image while in reverse can create a false representation of where the vehicle is relative to its surroundings, increasing the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA stated in a May 9 report.

Ford is not aware of any injuries related to the software error. The automaker has received one report of a minor crash resulting in property damage.

The recall affects 1,075,299 vehicles, including the following Ford and Lincoln models:

Ford:

  • 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, 2021-2024 Edge
  • 2022-2024 Expedition
  • 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E
  • 2023-2024 Escape, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600
  • 2024 Ranger, Mustang

Lincoln:

  • 2021-2023 Nautilus
  • 2022-2024 Navigator
  • 2023-2024 Corsair

To fix the problem, a vehicle’s so-called accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will eventually be available to be updated for free either in person at a Ford/Lincoln dealership, or remotely through an over-the-air update, according to Ford.

Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners of affected vehicles on June 16 to alert them of the rearview camera problem. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available sometime between July and September, recall documents state.

Affected vehicle owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332; Ford’s number for this recall is 25S49.

Owners can also contact NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to nhtsa.gov. NHTSA’s number for the recall is 25V-315.

The camera issue is the latest of several recalls this year by the Detroit automaker. Most recently, Ford recalled roughly 274,000 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition vehicles because of a poorly installed front brake line that could lead to reduced brake function, NHTSA said in another recall dated May 9.

In November 2024, NHTSA fined Ford $165 million for moving too slowly to recall vehicles with faulty rearview cameras and for failing to give the agency complete information as required by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford recalls nearly 275,000 Navigator and Expedition SUVs over possible brake damage

Ford Motor is recalling 273,789 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition vehicles because of a poorly installed front brake line that may lead to reduced brake function increasing the risk of crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in recall dated May 9.

Affected vehicles may have “a bent brake line” that could come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, which is a hose used to transfer filtered air from the car’s air filter to it engine. As a result, the outlet pipe may become damaged, resulting in a brake fluid leak, causing the vehicle’s front brakes to stop working, recall documents state.

“A brake line leak may cause a longer-than-expected brake pedal travel and result in a reduction in the rate of deceleration. If there is a rapid loss of brake fluid or the brake fluid is completely depleted, this can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA states in its report.

Ford is not aware of any reports of any accidents or injuries as a result of the faulty brake line.

The recall affects the following models:

  • 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2022-2024 Ford Expedition

Assembly issue

The cause of the bent brake line stems from faulty assembly during the vehicles’ engine installation process at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant. An internal review of plant records conducted by the U.S. carmaker’s Critical Concern Review Group earlier this year, discovered that modifications to the engine installation process had been make by the Louisville plant in November in order to prevent damage to the brake line.

“Through this investigation, Ford’s CCRG discovered that Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP) had modified the radiator hose stowage process during engine decking. This modification was done to prevent the brake line from being bent and was made starting on Nov. 20, 2024 to ensure proper clearances were met,” the recall documents say.

The vehicles included in the recall were manufactured prior to the modification made at the plant.

Warning signs

In the event of a brake fluid leak, the driver may experience an increase in pedal travel, or the distance brake pedal moves when depressed.

“With continued driving, a leaking brake line will cause the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir to decrease,” the recall states. When that happens, a red brake warning indicator light will illuminate once the fluid level drops to a dangerously low level.

Remedy

To fix the problem, Ford dealers will inspect the front brake line and, if needed, replace the brake line or air cleaner outlet pipe, at no cost. Owner notification will be mailed May 26, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S47.

Consumer may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to nhtsa.gov. NHTSA’s number for the recall is 25V-314.
