Taylor Swift buys back masters of first 6 albums, shares new details on

Taylor Swift announced Friday she has bought back her first six studio albums, the masters of which were sold to celebrity manager Scooter Braun in 2019 and later to Shamrock Capital.

“I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening,” Swift wrote in a letter shared on her website. “I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”

After the masters were sold in 2019, Swift said she would rerecord the albums, so she would own the updated versions. She has released four: “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)” in 2021, and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” in 2023.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting the rerecording of “Reputation,” originally released in 2017, for years, but Swift said in her letter that she hasn’t even rerecorded a quarter of that album.

“The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it,” she wrote. “To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it.”

However, she added the unreleased vault tracks — songs she wrote at the time but were cut from the tracklist — may be released in the future. She has included songs “From the Vault” on each of her rerecorded albums.

“There will be a time (if you’re into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch,” she wrote.

Swift teased in her 2023 Person of the Year interview with Time magazine that the “Reputation” vault tracks are “fire.”

The pop star also said she has finished rerecording her debut, self-titled album, which was originally released in 2006, and said she loves how it sounds now.

“Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about,” she wrote.

Swift thanked her fans in her letter, saying the support they showed her rerecorded albums and her record-breaking Eras Tour is why she was able to buy back her music.

Swift has been an advocate for artists owning their own music and noted she is “heartened by the conversations this saga as reignited” in the industry.

“Every time a new artist tells me they negotiated to won their master recordings in their record contract because of this fight, I’m reminded of how important it was for all of this to happen,” she wrote.

She also praised Shamrock Capital “for being the first people to ever offer” her the chance to buy the masters to her first six albums.

“This was a business deal to them but I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: My memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams,” she wrote.

Rick Derringer, who shot to fame with “Hang On Sloopy” and sang Hulk Hogan’s theme song, dies at 77

Guitarist and singer Rick Derringer, who shot to fame at 17 when his band The McCoys recorded “Hang On Sloopy,” had a hit with “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” and earned a Grammy Award for producing “Weird Al ” Yankovic’s debut album, has died. He was 77.

Derringer died Monday in Ormond Beach, Florida, according to a Facebook announcement from his caregiver, Tony Wilson. No cause of death was announced.

Derringer’s decades in the music industry spanned teen stardom, session work for bands like Steely Dan, supplying the guitar solo on Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and producing for Cyndi Lauper.

“Derringer’s legacy extends beyond his music, entertaining fans with his signature energy and talent. His passing leaves a void in the music world, and he will be deeply missed by fans, colleagues, and loved ones,” Wilson wrote.

As a teen, he formed the McCoys with his brother, Randy, and found fame singing “Hang On Sloopy,” a No. 26 hit about lovers from different socioeconomic circumstances. Derringer enjoyed his first solo hit with “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo,” which was used in the fourth season of “Stranger Things.”

His best-charting album was “All American Boy” in 1973, which included the instrumentals “Joy Ride” and “Time Warp.” His sole Grammy was for Yankovic’s “Eat It,” which had the Michael Jackson parodies “Eat It” and “Who’s Fat.”

“I’m very sad to say that my friend, rock guitar legend Rick Derringer, has passed,” Yankovic said in an Instagram post with a photo of him and Derringer in the studio. “Rick produced my first six albums and played guitar on my earliest recordings, including the solo on ‘Eat It.’ He had an enormous impact on my life, and will be missed greatly.”

Throughout the 1970s and ’80s, Derringer worked extensively as a session musician, playing on albums by Steely Dan — including “Countdown to Ecstasy,” “Katy Lied” and “Gaucho” — Todd Rundgren, Kiss and Barbra Streisand. He played on Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.”

In the mid-1980s he began working with Lauper, touring in her band and playing on three of her albums, including the hit “True Colors.” He toured with Ringo Starr and The All-Starr Band.

In 1985, he produced the World Wrestling Federation’s “The Wrestling Album,” which consisted mostly of pro wrestlers’ theme songs, many of which he co-wrote, including what would become Hulk Hogan’s theme song “Real American.”

Kanye West Says ‘I Am Done with Antisemitism’ Weeks After Sharing ‘N*gga Heil Hitler’ Song

Troubled rapper and fashion designer Kanye West declared he is “done with antisemitism” just weeks after he released a song where he chants “N*gga, Heil Hitler” as a repeated chorus.

“I am done with antisemitism,” West wrote in a Thursday morning X post.

“I love all people,” the “Runaway” rapper added in a follow-up post.

In a third X post, West declared, “God forgive me for the pain I’ve caused.”

“I forgive those who have caused me pain,” the “Heil Hitler” rapper added in another follow-up post.

In another X post, West suggested the reason for why he has a sudden change of heart, writing, “I simply got a FaceTime from my kids and I wanna save the world again…”

Social media users, however, are skeptical, pointing out that the rapper’s apparent change in course has transpired amid two Israeli Embassy staffers being murdered outside a Jewish community event in Washington, D.C.

“You are complicit in the murder of two people last night who were killed because they were thought to be Jewish,” one X user asserted. “You brought hate into this world and lost people believe your sh*t talking.”

“Bruh you say this every 4 months and get worse every time,” another commented.

“You have: Denied the holocaust, Praised Hitler, Wore a KKK suit, Posted antisemitic tweets, Had sex with your cousin, Praised Diddy, Followed Diddy on Instagram, Wrote a song praising Hitler,” a third declared, adding, “I will never forgive you Kayne, you will always be a terrorist.”

Another X user told West to “fuck right off,” adding, “Even if you’re sincere, you helped to fuel Jew hatred and gave it a platform,” before suggesting the rapper “stay antisemitic so we can see you very clearly.”

“Get help bud,” another advised. “You are too talented to spew so much hate.”

“How can you release a song called heil Hitler then be ‘done’ with antisemitism?” another inquired.

“Nothing quite says ‘I am done with antisemitism’ like just having released a song called ‘Heil Hitler’ a few weeks ago,” another X user quipped.

As Breitbart News reported, earlier this month, West released a “Heil Hitler” music video featuring the lyrics, “They don’t understand the things I say on Twitter. All my niggas Nazis. Nigga, Heil Hitler.”

This came a few months after the “Heartless” rapper offered a $20 white t-shirt adorned with a black swastika on the e-commerce website for his fashion brand Yeezy.

Notably, West’s swastika t-shirt was posted to Yeezy’s website just days after the rapper issued a series of bizarre and unhinged all-caps tirades on X, which included praising Adolf Hitler and disseminating disparaging remarks against Jews and white people, among other sentiments.

The madness appeared to begin in October 2022, when West proclaimed he would be “going death [Def] Con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” resulting in the rapper and fashion mogul to lose his sponsors, including Adidas and Balenciaga.

Singer Dawn Richard says Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs threatened her with death after she saw him beat Cassie

By MICHAEL R. SISAK and LARRY NEUMEISTER

NEW YORK (AP) — The Sean “Diddy” Combs sex trafficking trial resumed Monday when singer Dawn Richard testified that the hip-hop mogul threatened to kill her if she told anyone that she saw him beat his longtime girlfriend.

Richard told a jury in Manhattan federal court that Combs issued the threat the day after she witnessed the Bad Boy Records founder try to hit Casandra “Cassie” Ventura with a skillet and then beat her. She said he told her and another woman who saw the attack that “we could go missing” if either revealed what they saw.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitzi Steiner asked Richard what she took “we could go missing” to mean.

“That we could die,” Richard responded, saying she was shocked because all of this happened just as she was beginning to record with “Diddy — Dirty Money,” a musical trio she formed with Combs and another R&B singer.

Combs, 55, is on trial in New York on sex trafficking and racketeering charges alleging that he exploited his status as an entertainment power broker to abuse women, including Cassie, through threats and violence. He has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers have argued that prosecutors compiled proof of domestic violence, but not federal crimes.

In four days on the witness stand last week, Cassie testified that she wanted a loving relationship with Combs during their nearly 11 years together but was instead subjected to weekly drug-fueled “freak-offs” with male sex workers that left her too exhausted and damaged to pursue her music career.

Shortly after Cassie finished testifying on Friday, Richard began her stint on the stand, saying she witnessed Combs attack Cassie on multiple occasions, including during a visit to Combs’ home recording studio in 2009, when Richard said she and another woman saw Combs hit Cassie “on the head and beat her on the ground.”

She said Combs tried to hit Cassie over the head with a skillet, but Cassie was able to deflect it.

On Monday, Steiner asked Richard how frequently she witnessed Combs beat his girlfriend.

“Frequently,” Richard said. “He would punch her, choke her, drag her, slap her in the mouth. I saw him kick her, punch her in the stomach.”

Richard said that on other occasions, she saw Combs punch Cassie in the face with a closed fist and that she saw him punch her in the stomach during an argument at a restaurant.

Cassie used makeup, clothing and sunglasses to cover up injuries, which included bruising on her face, eyes, lip, arms and knees, Richard said.

Richard testified that the beatings sometimes occurred when Cassie spoke up for herself, “if she had an opinion about something.”

At other times, she said, “it could be random. We wouldn’t even know where it came from.”

Richard, who also performed in the group Danity Kane, said Combs’ staff, including his bodyguards, also witnessed violence.

“They wouldn’t react. They wouldn’t do anything,” Richard testified.

Richard supported Cassie’s testimony that Combs had stifled Cassie’s fledgling singing career, saying she heard Combs tell Cassie that he “owned her” and that any success she had would be on his terms.

“It would come when he said it would come,” Richard said.

Bad Boy Records signed Cassie to a 10-album deal in 2006, but only released one — the self-titled “Cassie,” which came out the same year. Cassie and Combs started dating in 2007 and broke up for good in 2018.

Cassie testified last week that although she continued to go to the recording studio and work on songs, Combs refused to release them.

Richard said Combs would get mad — sometimes violent — when she and other artists offered to help Cassie write songs.

“Mr. Combs didn’t like that when we talked to Cassie and oftentimes, we would pay for it,” Richard testified, adding: “If you didn’t stay in line, there was consequences.”

She recalled Combs cursing and telling her to stay out of his relationship.
