Rod Stewart said he is “devastated” after he was forced to cancel upcoming shows in the United States as he recovers from the flu ahead of his big festival gig.

The 80-year-old singer took to Instagram to explain why he was canceling four shows and rescheduling two others as he continues his recovery.

“I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu,” he wrote. “So sorry my friends. I’m devastated and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to my fans. I’ll be back on stage and will see you soon.”

He signed off “Sir Rod” with a broken heart emoji. It was not immediately clear how long Stewart has been recovering from the flu.

The canceled shows were scheduled for Las Vegas and Stateline, Nevada, between June 7 and June 14. Two shows in Rancho Mirage and Paso Robles, California, were rescheduled for September.

Stewart recently performed at the American Music Awards and received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his career spanning more than 60 years.

BBC News reported that Stewart is set to perform at the Glastonbury Festival later this month. The website reported the singer had previously said he intended to stop playing “large-scale world tours” at the end of 2025 but was “proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury.” His set is expected to draw some 100,000 fans.

The other headliners at this year’s Glastonbury Festival include The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo.

Las Vegas may still dazzle, but its sparkle is coming at a steeper price:

Las Vegas — The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign is usually the first stop for millions of tourists. But the line to snap a photo is noticeably shorter this spring as inflation, which has brought on higher prices for visitors, has hit “Sin City” hard.

“We were here last year, almost exactly the same time,” John Fischer, who is visiting from the United Kingdom, told CBS News. “And it was probably 20% more [expensive] this year.”

U.K. tourist Stuart Woodfall said he was surprised to pay $9 for a coffee.

“In the U.K., we pay 4 pounds, 5 pounds for a coffee? So yeah, crazy,” Woodfall said.

Those higher prices haven’t stopped convention traffic, but casual trips are down. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said 3.39 million people visited in March, down 7.8% from the same time last year. April saw a 5.1% drop in visitors from April 2024.

Hotel occupancy also slipped, as the average nightly rate on the Las Vegas Strip reached $203 in April, the LVCVA said, up from $194 at the same time last year. The hotel occupancy rate rate in April was 84.5%, down slightly from 85.5% in April of 2024.

“I think what’s driving that largely now is just a drop in consumer confidence,” Steve Hill, CEO and president of the LVCVA, told CBS News.

Hill says big resorts can absorb a few empty rooms if the price is right.

“The philosophy in Las Vegas prior to the pandemic was, at any cost, fill a room,” Hill said. “Now, that has moderated somewhat. And so there is a balance point that they have found that is actually a little bit below the occupancy that we saw at a peak, which was about 88% in 2019. They’re comfortable in that 85% range at a little higher price.”

Another sore spot is that Las Vegas is seeing fewer international visitors, Hill explains. They are the ones who generally tend to stay longer and spend more.

“It’s an investment in a trip, and we’re typically a bucket list,” Hill said. “They want to come here, spend more days, really enjoy the experiences that are here. And so when we lose them, we’re losing a very valuable customer.”

Tourists who do roll the dice in Vegas are currently dealing with heavy vehicle traffic. Months of construction and road closures for special events can turn a 10-minute ride into a crawl on the Strip.

“We’ve had so many customers say, ‘We’re never coming back to this city, you can’t get anywhere,'” said Will Tryon, co-owner of Adventure Photo Tours, which he operates with his wife Donna Tryon. Their company does tours in the surrounding region, including the Grand Canyon, Area 51, Zion National Park and Death Valley.

The couple said higher fuel and insurance costs leave little room to cut prices. Some tours priced at $75 before the COVID-19 pandemic are now $109.

“The economy, the money, they don’t have the money to spend,” Donna told CBS News. “And the fact is that Las Vegas is no longer a bargain vacation.”

Even so, plenty of visitors are still shelling out for hot tickets like Dead & Company’s residency at the Sphere this spring, and Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour, which is coming to Allegiant Stadium in July.

“It’s like, you can go for the fancy experience, but then you can find a place that’s a pretty good price,” said Marc Kutzin, who is visiting from New York.

The summer calendar is full of concerts, festivals and sporting events, and Hill believes the city will be resilient.

“Las Vegas is gonna respond to this,” Hill said. “We are going to have a great summer.”

Pisces, a Seafood Wonderland With Luxury to Spare, Opens at Wynn Las Vegas

At Pisces Bar & Seafare, the new seafood restaurant that will open at Wynn Las Vegas on Saturday, May 10, executive chef Martin Heierling has done a deep dive into making lobster pasta.

Lobster pasta is a crowd-pleasing dish at seafood restaurants around the world, whether you’re summering in Sheepshead Bay or sailing across the Adriatic Sea. At Pisces, Heierling has a clear vision for his version.

“Most of the time, people make lobster pasta and they use a lobster stock and basically a tomato sauce,” Heierling tells Observer. “I looked at it like, ‘OK, how do I like to eat lobster?’”

The lobster spaghettini at Pisces does have a little hit of San Marzano DOP tomatoes, but Heierling wants this dish to be lobster-forward and not tomato-forward.

“I’m doing a fennel acqua pazza and I’m still using lobster stock, but I don’t roast it,” he says. “It’s a white stock, and I just reduced it until it’s extremely fortified.”

Heierling, who’s sourcing fish daily from the Mediterranean, is amplifying the flavors of the ocean in all kinds of ways at Pisces. He’s curing fish, including branzino that’s salt-baked before being flambéed tableside, with plankton. He’s getting dry-aged tuna (akami, chutoro and otoro) from Liwei Liao’s Joint Seafood and also dry-aging fish like orata in-house at Wynn. He’s honing in on the wonders of seafood, saffron and socarrat as he makes paella with a spiny lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels and clams.

“Somebody just asked me about the menu, and we were discussing if this is modern seafood,” Heierling said. “I said, ‘No, it’s really not. It’s just seafood.’ What I really like to do is look for ingredients that are really interesting to me. For example, I use a lot of plankton that I buy from Ángel León in Spain.”

Pisces, located across from SW Steakhouse on Wynn’s Lake of Dreams just below the main level of the resort, feels like a glamorous throwback experience. The room is dark and moody with a vintage ’70s vibe and music that matches the atmosphere. This is Wynn Las Vegas, which knows a few things about making things over-the-top, so it’s no surprise that the space, designed by Todd-Avery Lenahan, boasts eye-catching elements like reflective mosaic floors, 400 rum-colored orbs made of Murano glass and an entry rotunda with both embroidered velvet walls and ebony wood.

Heierling, whose extensive experience includes running Sensi at Bellagio and working as Noble 33’s corporate executive chef, has done a lot in his career. But he knows that Wynn is on a different level. So he’s loading his menu with luxury.

“I didn’t want to just do caviar service,” he says.

So Pisces, which uses Thomas Keller’s Regiis Ova caviar, is also serving caviar with jamón ibérico croquetas. There are caviar bumps on crisp airbread in the shape of a fish. And the elaborate seafood platters at Pisces include the Siren’s Offering with oysters, clams, mussels, Oishii shrimp, lobster Catalana, king crab, spicy tuna tartare, langoustines, scallops, balik salmon and aged kaluga royal caviar.

Like everything else at Wynn, Pisces is designed to be a total-package experience. The bi-level restaurant will feature everything from tableside seafood presentations with dry ice to a section of Mariena Mercer Boarini’s cocktail menu that’s devoted to Spanish gin and tonics (like the Valencia with Sevilla orange gin, limoncello and Sicilian citrus tonic water). Jennifer Yee’s dessert menu has playful presentations like a beautiful chocolate fish.

Heierling is paying close attention to many difference-making details, like the Greek olive oils he’s chosen and the way he pre-scores the salt crust for his tableside branzino and how he leaves the skin only on the branzino’s top filet. It’s about sophistication and a more elegant experience.

“We want each person to have that communal dining aspect but still in an elevated luxurious way,” he says. “I think that was one of the most important things we focused on.”

Pisces Bar & Seafare at Wynn Las Vegas will open its dining room from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m on weekdays and 5 p.m to 10:30 p.m. on weekends. The bar opens at 4:30 p.m. daily.
