Boston road rage melees: Woman accused of stabbing scooter rider; man allegedly uses hatchet to smash windshield

Two road rage melees in the city have led to charges for a woman who’s accused of stabbing a scooter rider, and a man allegedly using a hatchet to smash a windshield.

Roxbury woman Danielle Stokes, 42, allegedly struck a man with her car and then stabbed him. She has been charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car and knife).

Boston police officers responded to a call for a person stabbed at Marvin Street and Shawmut Avenue in Roxbury on May 13 at around 3 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a 45-year-old man lying in a pool of blood. The victim told officers that he had been stabbed, and the cops saw lacerations on his forehead and hand.

Witnesses told police that they saw Stokes and the victim fighting, and called 911.

Surveillance video shows a gray Audi SUV driven by Stokes struck a man, who was later identified as the victim, on an electric scooter on Roxbury Street.

Stokes and a passenger, later identified as 54-year-old Jacqueline Adeyemi, then got out of the car and made their way toward the man. As the victim returned to his scooter and began to move away, Stokes allegedly made punching motions toward him.

Then a bit later, the same SUV is seen on camera stopping in the middle of Marvin Street, close to where the man was stopped on his scooter. The man approached the car.

Both Stokes and Adeyemi got out of the vehicle, and the three began fighting. Adeyemi is seen holding an unidentified object, either a bat or stick, and striking the victim with it.

A warrant has been issued for Adeyemi’s arrest. She faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

At some point during the fight, both the victim and Adeyemi were knocked down, and Stokes was allegedly seen standing over the victim with an object in her right hand — believed to be a knife.

She allegedly made stabbing motions with the object while dragging the man along the street. Both women were seen standing over the victim while he was on the ground, unable to move.

The 45-year-old man was transported to Boston Medical Center.

Eight plastic bags containing a rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine fell out of the victim’s pocket as he was being treated by emergency department personnel. The man will be summonsed to court on a charge of possession to distribute cocaine, subsequent offense.

“This was a chaotic, continuing incident taking place in the middle of the street with, luckily, witnesses present and surveillance cameras nearby,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said. “Anyone thinking they can engage in violent conduct in this day and age with no chance of being observed is kidding themselves.”

The judge ordered Stokes held on $1,000 bail. She’s due back in court on July 14 for a pre-trial hearing.

In a separate incident last month, a 27-year-old Belmont man allegedly smashed another motorist’s vehicle with a hatchet.

A dangerousness hearing was held in Brighton BMC on Thursday for Andrew Oprian, who has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (hatchet) and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.

On May 17 at about 11:40 p.m., Oprian and a second motorist were driving down Commonwealth Avenue when the other driver tried to pass Oprian, who was allegedly driving 10 mph and swerving back and forth.

Oprian allegedly became angry after he was passed, and he drove the victim off the road and into a tree.

While the victim was in the car and disoriented from airbags deploying, Oprian allegedly walked to the victim’s car and struck it numerous times with a hatchet, shattering its windshield. He then fled the scene.

The incident was caught on multiple surveillance cameras and cell phone videos.

“Anyone watching this video can understand how terrified the victim must have been and how dangerous the whole situation was,” Hayden said. “We are selective in moving for dangerousness findings and this is a case where seeking such a finding is entirely justified.”

The judge took the dangerousness matter under advisement, and was expected to deliver his finding on Monday.

Stabbing at Germany train station leaves several people injured; female suspect arrested, authorities say

A stabbing attack on Friday at the busy central train station in the German city of Hamburg left several people injured, some of them in life-threatening condition, authorities said.

Police said a 39-year-old woman, a German national, was arrested at the scene without putting up resistance and that they believe, after watching video footage, she acted alone. Police also secured the knife.

The attacker targeted people on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 in the station at around 6 p.m. local time, according to police. The station in downtown Hamburg, Germany’s second-biggest city, is a major hub for local, regional and long-distance trains.

Hamburg’s fire service initially said six people sustained life-threatening injuries, while another three were seriously injured and three had slight injuries, German news agency dpa reported. Police, however, said later that there were no “valid figures” yet but that “several” people had life-threatening injuries.

There was no immediate indication of any political motive, and investigators were looking into whether the suspect may have been mentally ill, police spokesperson Florian Abbenseth said.

A high-speed InterCity Express, or ICE, train with its doors open was still at the platform hours after the attack, but Abbenseth said that it was not a crime scene.

Railway operator Deutsche Bahn said it was “deeply shocked” by the attack. Four tracks at the station were closed Friday evening, and some long-distance trains were delayed or diverted.

Carrying weapons, including knives, is banned at the station and on local transport in Hamburg.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s office said the German leader was appalled by the news and told Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher in a call Friday evening that “my thoughts are with the victims and their relatives.”

There have been several stabbing attacks in Germany in recent years. In August 2024, a 26-year-old Syrian man killed three people and wounded eight others in a Solingen festival knife attack, motivated by the Islamic State terror group, prosecutors said. In June 2024, a man attacked several people in the southwest German city of Mannheim, leaving seven people injured, according to police. And in June 2023, a man fatally stabbed two people and injured seven others on a train in northern Germany, police said at the time.
