The “largest wardrobe auction” of clothes worn by Princess Diana is set to take place later this month.
The auction, “Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection,” will take place June 26 in Beverly Hills, California, and will feature over 200 garments and artifacts that showcase Diana’s “enduring influence as a fashion icon and humanitarian,” Julien’s Auctions said.
“This collection is not only the most comprehensive offering of her wardrobe ever presented, but also a tribute to her elegance, grace, glamour, and enduring spirit,” said Martin Nolan, Julien’s co-founder and executive director. “Each item is a window into a moment in history.”
The auction will also feature items once worn by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother and other members of the royal family, dating back to the 1800s.
A portion of the money raised from the auction will go toward Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Previous auctions from Diana’s wardrobe broke records in 2023. A dress worn twice by Diana was auctioned off for over $1.1 million in Hollywood, and a royal sweater that Diana wore in 1981 to one of then-Prince Charles’ polo matches during their engagement sold for $1.1 million.
Here are some of the pieces that will be up for auction.

For those who move through the world with an unbridled lust for adventure and insatiable appetite for life’s decadent detours, summer is not a fleeting reverie to be squandered poolside. No, the summer season demands to be indulged with the same passionate intensity as a grand Mediterranean love affair—chasing that wild-eyed fervor from dawn until the beachside bonfire flickers its final embers.
Newsflash for the intrepid souls who crave more from their warm weather dalliances than a pedestrian array of colorblocked prints and banal patterns—only the most distinctive and masterfully-designed men’s swimwear will do, whether your summer constitutes boho soirees in Positano, new wave happenings in Hydra, or rum-drenched sybaritism in off-season St. Barth.
There’s an art to picking the right swimwear—especially if your summer plans involve more than just parking it poolside. Whether you’re diving off a catamaran in the Cyclades, sneaking in a tan on your Brooklyn rooftop, or grabbing ceviche after a surf session, the best men’s swimwear this season is designed to function and flex. And not just trunks—we’re talking tailored Bermudas, sport-influenced briefs and shorts that blur the line between swim and resortwear.
This is a summer style guide tailored for those who prefer their hair inflected with ocean spray and Persols permanently balanced on the bridge of their nose—chasing the shimmering fantasy of endless sun-drenched escapades, always cutting a debonair figure whether sauntering from cabana to beachside trattoria or executing ungodly underwater breath holds.
Designers are dialing in on fit and fabric: think Econyl made from ocean waste, quick-dry Merino blends and nylon poplins that look more Savile Row than surf shop. There’s a push toward formality—fly fronts, side tab adjusters, tonal hardware—without sacrificing performance. Some cuts are compact and Riviera-ready, others hit mid-thigh with a crisp silhouette and a few go long for the Bermuda loyalists. The common thread? Every pair here is built to impress, wet or dry.
And then there’s the print direction: you’ll find starry palms, Deco geometrics and even cocktail motifs that go full kitsch. But you’ll also see minimalist bathing suit takes for guys who’d rather blend in than broadcast. No matter your lean—graphic or clean, structured or swim-brief bold—this list covers every category. Ahead, Observer’s edit of the best swimwear to wear this summer, from high-design briefs to resort-polished shorts that can hold their own at a pool bar or private villa.
The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing, as A-listers take over the French Riviera town to attend the countless movie premieres, afterparties and events over 12 days. And now, it’s time for one of the most highly anticipated fêtes of the film festival, if not the year—the annual AmfAR Gala in Cannes, which helps support the Foundation for AIDS Research by raising money and awareness for the important organization.
The 31st iteration of the Cannes AmFAR gala on Thursday, May 22 will, per usual, take place at the glitzy Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, and Carine Roitfeld is once again curating the fashion show. Taraji P. Henson is the 2025 host, while Duran Duran will take the stage, along with performances from Adam Lambert and Ciara.
Attendees tend to go all out with their attire at the AmfAR gala, making the event one of the most exciting and glamorous red carpets to watch. Below, see all the best celebrity fashion moments from the 2025 AmfAR Gala at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in the South of France.

The annual Cannes Film Festival is here, which means it’s time for the biggest and brightest in the movie industry to descend upon the French Riviera for 12 days of uninterrupted glamour. The 2025 Cannes Film Festival begins on May 13 and runs through May 24, celebrating international cinema and bringing with it an array of glitzy red carpets, movie premieres and after parties.
Juliette Binoche will serve as jury president of the main competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, taking over duties from Greta Gerwig. At the opening ceremony, Robert De Niro will received the Honorary Palme d’Or award. The cinematic festivities will open with the French film Bye Bye, directed by filmmaker Amélie Bonnin. While the films might be the driving force of Cannes, the fashion is a close second. A-listers go all out on La Croisette throughout the 12-day affair, which is one of the most extravagant and exciting red carpets of the entire year.
Just one day before the red carpet festivities began, however, the Cannes Film Festival explicitly updated its dress code, sharing on the official website that for “decency reasons,” nudity and “voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train,” are prohibited on the red carpet. The updated rule also notes that anyone who doesn’t follow the dress code will not be able to access the red carpet or other areas of the festival. While the film festival has always had a notoriously strict code, requiring black tie attire. This is a new subsection of the rules, though, and it’ll be interesting to see if everyone follows the new addendum. The Cannes red carpet has, after all, been the setting of many a rather gorgeous sheer dress over the years, from Kendall Jenner’s layered tulle Schiaparelli to Bella Hadid’s nude Saint Laurent frock. We’re just going to have to wait and see how it plays out on the 2025 red carpet.
Last year’s film festival in the South of France also brought us dazzling sartorial moments like Anya Taylor-Joy in old Hollywood Dior, Naomi Campbell in sparkling sequined Chanel and Demi Moore in sculptural Schiaparelli, and there’s no doubt that the 2025 iteration will bring with it even more gorgeous ensembles. We’re keeping you updated with all the best fashion from the Cannes Film Festival red carpet throughout the entire spectacle. Below, see the best red carpet looks.

It’s been a whirlwind year for Mikey Madison, who earned her first Oscar nomination—winning for Best Actress—for her breakout role as Ani in Sean Baker’s Anora. The 26-year-old actress took home an armful of other awards this season, and hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time.
While Madison’s starring role in Anora garnered her critical acclaim and propelled her further into the spotlight, she has been acting for nearly a decade. She played Max in the television show Better Things from 2016 to 2022, and in 2019, earned the part of Sadie, a crazed Manson Family follower, in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. Soon after, she was cast alongside Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Jack Quaid in 2022’s Scream.
Despite her relatively short time on the Hollywood stage, Madison has made a big sartorial splash. Pre-Anora fame, Madison’s red carpet looks tended towards classic silhouettes, with a few bold prints thrown into the mix. Working with stylist Jamie Mizrahi, Madison’s looks on the Anora press tour and subsequent awards season circuit showcased her evolving, unique fashion sense. She showed a preference for elegant, classic Old Hollywood gowns on the red carpet, often pairing a sleek silhouette with simple accessories and waves in her hair. In 2025 she added a designer ambassadorship to her resume, as she was named a house ambassador for Tiffany & Co. and starred in their HardWear campaign.
From her first film premiere to 2025 awards season darling, see Mikey Madison’s red carpet style evolution.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit, known around the globe as the Met Gala, will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, in New York City.
The Spring 2025 exhibition, titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” will invoke Black creativity, innovation and expression in fashion, culture and style. The dress code of the 2025 Met Gala — typically related to the exhibit’s theme — is “Tailored for You,” calling for a focus on suiting and menswear, according to the Met. The exhibit nods to the stories of Black style told through clothing by the African diaspora beginning in the 18th century.
The exhibit is funded largely by contributions from the Met Gala, where every year the biggest and wealthiest names gather to show off the best in fashion.
Vogue Magazine’s Anna Wintour has co-chaired the event since 1995 and is joined this year by co-chairs Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo.

In 2024, the Met Gala explored the themes of rebirth and renewal through nature and the passage of time. Referencing the 1962 J.G. Ballard short story “The Garden of Time” celebrities, entrepreneurs, athletes and designers wore floral gowns and referenced nature’s everlasting forms.
Bad Bunny wore Margiela and Jennifer Lopez wore a Schiaparelli design. Both co-chaired the event with Wintour, who wore a Loewe custom floor-length jacket adorned in feathers that formed tulip bouquets. But Zendaya, another gala co-chair, stole the night by walking the carpet twice. She first wore Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano before changing quickly and closing out the most public part of the night, the strut into the event at the steps of the Met, in a 1996 black gown from John Galliano’s Givenchy era, which she paired with a flower bouquet Alexander McQueen head piece designed by Philip Treacy.

The Met Gala honored the late designer Karl Lagerfeld in 2023 with a night of references to his style and his immense influence in the fashion world. Some wore Lagerfeld’s designs for Chanel, Fendi, Balmain and Chloé, while others twisted his unique way of dressing, which combined black, white and leather for his daily wear, and later in life inspired the creative behind his eponymous label. There were also plenty of cat odes at the gala, a tribute to Lagerfeld’s beloved feline friend Choupette,

The second installment of a two-part exhibition on fashion in the United States, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” celebrated two centuries of American identity through fashion’s eyes. “Gilded Glamour” graced the gala’s red carpet and American history references were prevalent.
The most recognized garment belonged to Marilyn Monroe. The nude, form-fitting number shined on the style icon while she serenaded then-president John F. Kennedy for his birthday in 1962. Kim Kardashian wore the dress after entering a deal with the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum to bring the garment out of its display. The uproar was immediate, as some alleged possible damage to the dress. Ripley’s was forced to respond denying the heated claims.

The first of two parts, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” wove together identities of the ever-changing U.S. through time, exploring the emotions behind the country’s evolving culture. Instagram sponsored the event and brought to the carpet executives turned celebrities, including author, viral influencer and director of fashion partnerships at Instagram Evan Chen, and the social app’s chief Adam Mosseri.
After a pause for the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, social hesitance was still evident and masks were incorporated into some of the night’s designs. Of note, Billie Eilish wore an Oscar De La Renta dress for a cause, calling for the storied house to end its ties to fur.

Guests brought their imagination to the pink carpet for the 2019 “Camp: Notes on Fashion” gala rendition. Gender-bending was evident and many looks turned heads, like Jared Leto’s interpretation of Alessandro Michele’s world of Gucci. Lady Gaga’s iconic Brandon Maxwell looks told a story of style with each step the singer took outside of the Met. Framed around Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp,'” the gala brought to life the whimsical and effervescent nature of fashion.

The 2018 Met Gala theme drew inspiration from Catholicism. “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” explored religious iconography and the influence of medieval art in fashion. Guests brought to life looks that referenced papal garments and displayed biblical artifacts like crosses, angel wings and halos. The theme’s ties to the history of Christ were not well received by some critics who thought fashion should stay out of the church.

The 2017 event paid tribute to Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo and her Comme des Garçons avant-garde designs that play with the body’s shape and form. Duality, a motif for the exhibit, highlighted almost four decades of her work. Guests brought to the event pops of red from Kawakubo’s palette, intricate embellishments and sheer fabrics. Caroline Kennedy and Rihanna embraced more fantastical designs, pairing shape-shifting silhouettes with florals, inducing more authenticity to a much-subdued theme interpretation.

The influence of technology in fashion turned the 2016 Met Gala into a spectacular display of metallics and cutting-edge designs. Many of the garnmets appeared too intricate and precise to be man-made, an ode to the artisans all over the world who piece together exquisite Haute Couture creations by pouring thousands of hours into each work. CBS News spent the day with supermodel and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, who wore a sleek white Brandon Maxwell number that referenced classic men’s tailoring paired with Alaïa-esque angular cuts.

While the 2015 Met exhibit scoped a wide history of artifacts and influence from Asian art, the gala came down to just one word: Rihanna. Dawning a sunny yellow cape that cascaded down the steps of the Met, the singer and fashion icon elevated the meaning of attending fashion’s biggest night. The couture garment designed by China’s Guo Pei took two years to make, Rihanna told Vanity Fair. The look quickly comes to mind around the world when the first Monday in May is discussed.

The Costume Institute has been celebrating those behind fashion since its inception, and in 1973 it began hosting the gala within the museum itself, Vogue recounts. Fashion authority Diana Vreeland brought to life “The World of Balenciaga” after exiting Vogue as editor-in-chief, and her tribute to Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga left a blueprint for other designer-centered celebrations that followed.
In 2014, couturier Charles James’ work went on display at the Met and guests embraced brilliant gowns with his grandiose touch. James’ tailored and structural approach to the female form, mixed with modern fabrics, brought elegance and regalia to the occasion.

Anti-establishment influence inked its way into the Met’s history in 2013. Started in the 1970’s, the punk movement gave guests a reason to wear garments embellished with the spirit of teen disobedience and air of grungy D.I.Y. personal style. Madonna honored the era with fishnets, metal studs and silver chains adorning a Givenchy mini plaid blazer by Riccardo Tisci. Rebellion was also apparent in the hairstyles exhibited, most notably by singer Miley Cyrus, a fashion fanatic, whose short, spiked look paired perfectly with her risque fishnet Marc Jacobs gown.
The Costume Institute started holding benefits in 1948, but it was Vreeland who brought themed galas to the next level as a Met consultant with “The World of Balenciaga” in 1973, according to Vogue.
Inspecting the art of the world’s most famous designers and houses, declaring the impact of global cultures and movements, and defining the prevalence of certain style icons, the Met Gala has explored many themes throughout The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute history. Here’s a look at the full list of Met Gala themes:
Inflation has pushed up the price of many things, but not of tickets to the 2025 Met Gala.
The A-list event, held annually on the first Monday in May to benefit The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, draws celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, business and other domains in support of the Met’s acquisitions and exhibitions on fashion.
While the cost of attending the event, dubbed “fashion’s biggest night,” jumped in 2024, the price of tickets to this year’s gala is unchanged. The catch? You must be invited to attend — tickets aren’t available for purchase by the general public.
The cost of entry to the 2025 Met Gala for an individual is $75,000. Tables for multiple guests start at $350,000. Often, couture powerhouses that sell high-end fashion will purchase tables and invite stars as their guests, so some celebrities won’t pay a dime to attend.
The Met Gala’s theme changes every year to celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition. The year’s theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
It is the first Met exhibit devoted exclusively to Black designers and the first in more than two decades to focus on menswear, according to The Associated Press.
“I think honoring minorities, honoring Black and brown people in these spaces and outside every day, is important,” musical artist Janelle Monáe, told the wire service. “The ones who have dedicated their lives to this country to serve, build and give us art to sustain us for a lifetime. We should continue to honor them and push forward and stand on their shoulders.”
Monáe is a member this year’s Gala host committee, along with Simone Biles, Spike Lee, Ayo Edebiri, André 3000, and other public figures across sports and the arts.
The museum in February revealed the event’s co-chairs and host committee as well as its dress code, “Tailored for You.” It relates to the exhibition, focusing on tailored suiting styles and menswear, but leaves room for interpretation.
The 2025 Met Gala co-chairs are actor Colman Domingo, Formula I driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, hip hop impresario Pharrell Williams, and fashion icon Anna Wintour, the long-time editor-in-chief of Vogue. NBA star LeBron James is serving as an honorary chair, according to The Met.
Taylor Hill/WireImage
The annual benefit provides the costume department with its primary source of annual funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions and other operating costs. This year’s event has already raised a record $31 million, according to the Met.
One day before the Met Gala, a newer red-carpet event, The Debt Gala, will be held in Brooklyn. The event was founded to raise funds for organizations that help relieve medical debt for people in marginalized communities. It also has a theme: Let Them Eat Cake: Ruined Riches. Tickets cost $35.
