Exclusive: GOP Strategist Expects Trump to Get More Involved in ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

Republican strategist Mark Bednar assured Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matt Boyle that Congress’s “big, beautiful” budget bill is still being worked on and not dead in the water as the establishment media has reported.

After the House Budget Committee rejected the GOP bill in a 16-21 vote on Friday, Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) called for a redo session scheduled for Sunday night at 10:00 p.m., with Roll Call naming Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Josh Brecheen (R-OK), and Andrew Clyde (R-GA) as members with “unresolved concerns” about the proposed legislation.

“I think I saw headlines yesterday saying ‘The Republicans torpedoed their own bill,’ right? Like, this is a process, right? Like, this is what they do,” Boyle said during the latest episode of Breitbart News Saturday. “They go back and forth, they negotiate, they finagle, you know, they get their wiggles out, and then all of a sudden, they vote for it. The way I see it, Mark, we’ve only just begun here, right? Like, walk us through what happens next.”

Bednar concurred, saying he “totally agrees.”

“It’s not necessarily that this thing is dead in the water,” the longtime strategist said. “But also, we’re not just able to tap, tap, tap it in. It’s somewhere in between, where there’s still a lot of work to do.”

He went on to explain that while the budget, championed by President Donald Trump as a “big, beautiful bill,” is not over, “this isn’t arts and crafts time,” and the president will be getting more involved shortly:

You know, all the memes about Debbie Dingell falling asleep have been incredible, but there’s still a lot of work to do. And you know, this isn’t arts and crafts time. This is time to get down to brass tacks and actually get this done. And so what this means with all these holdouts recently, is they voted no in the Budget Committee, even though they already voted yes on the original house budget resolution, which actually there’s more savings and there’s less spending in the bills that have been marked up. So it’s actually an improved product upon what they’ve already supported. And also the fact that, you know, President Trump, he’s going to be the guy to get this across the finish line. So, we’re going to see his involvement probably more in the next coming few hours, days, weeks, to make sure that we can get this done.

Organizers Planning a ‘Nationwide’ Protest for Trump’s Birthday

Agitators are planning a not-too-surprising birthday gift for President Donald Trump on his 79th birthday — yet another anti-Trump demonstration.

Organizers say they are hoping to upstage a military parade the president has planned for June 14 in Washington, DC.

Refuse Fascism, the group claiming to be behind the event, has held rallies against the Trump administration in downtown Los Angeles and other cities, ABC’s network affiliate Channel 7 reported Sunday.

Sunsara Taylor, who is with the group, told the station:

Donald Trump is trashing the rule of law, he’s disappearing immigrants, he’s threatening to do the same without any due process (for) legal citizens. The other day on television he said he didn’t know if he has to abide by the Constitution. This is an emergency. Not just for people in this country, but for all over the planet.

The group is calling June 14 “No King’s Day.”

Newsweek, however, reported the protest is actually being organized by as group named “No Kings” along with partners such as Black Voters Matter and the Declaration for American Democracy.

The group is mobilizing volunteers to show up “everywhere Trump isn’t — to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings,” an article in the magazine stated. It remains to be seen how many supporters will respond to the call.

Beginning the day of his first inauguration, protests against Donald Trump have become a regular and predictable feature during his terms in office.

Yet, rarely have they produced massive numbers and had the national sweep like the demonstrations and riots after the 2020 death of George Floyd.

As for June 14 in D.C., the administration is holding a parade to mark the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary.

The parade will reportedly feature dozens of tanks, thousands of marching troops, and military aircraft flying over the capitol.

Trump on Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis: Wishing Him a ‘Successful Recovery’

President Donald Trump responded to the news that former President Joe Biden had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and wished him a “fast and successful recovery.”

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Trump’s post comes after Biden’s personal office issued a statement revealing that the former president had been diagnosed with prostate cancer with “metastasis to the bone.”

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the statement said. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

The statement added that while Biden’s prostate cancer represented “a more aggressive form of the disease,” it appeared to be “hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”

“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement added.

Biden’s cancer diagnosis comes after doctors discovered a “small nodule” on Biden’s prostate during a physical examination.

In response to Biden’s cancer diagnosis, lawmakers across the aisle — such as former Vice President Kamala Harris (D), Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), and others — expressed that they are keeping Biden and his family in their prayers and wishing him a “complete recovery.”

“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis,” Harris said in a post on X. “We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”

Chris Murphy: We Have a ‘Madman’ in the Oval Office Because Dems Failed to Oust Biden

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that America was stuck with a “madman” in the Oval Office because Democrats did not force then-President Joe Biden to step down.

Murphy said, “The president should have gotten out of the race earlier, there’s no doubt the Democratic Party would have been better served by having the ability to have a primary, Kamala Harris probably would have done very well in the process but in retrospect, we lost so we can’t defend the way in which our politics played out.”

Host Kristen Welker said, “The new book, Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, goes even further and details what they called a cover-up, from the White House, from top aides around the president. Here’s a little bit of what they have written, ‘One senior White House aide, who left because they didn’t think Biden should run again, confessed to us that we attempted to shield him from his own staff, so many people didn’t realize the extent of the decline beginning in 2023.’ Do you think some top official in the Biden White House covered up the state of his mental health at the time?”

Murphy said, “I haven’t read the book and I don’t know what to say about the allegations they made, but i know that i worked with him throughout 20 and 22 on the gun bill which has saved by the way, thousands of lives, he was intimately involved in those negotiations.”

He added, “Ultimately, in retrospect, you can’t defend what the Democratic Party did because we are stuck with a madman, with a corrupt president in the Oval Office, and we should have given ourselves a better chance to win.”

What CEOs Can Learn from the Boring Power of Mark Carney

Mark Carney’s composed leadership style—quiet, strategic and technically rigorous—offers a timely counterpoint to the theatrics of today’s power players. Getty Images

We live in a world where disruptive personalities and headstrong leadership styles grab the headlines. But maybe Mark Carney’s measured and meticulous rise to become the 24th Prime Minister of Canada offers a compelling counterexample. While some might label the former central bank chief as ‘boring,’ his track record shows a shrewd approach that has been remarkably effective in high-stakes scenarios. As CEOs navigate an increasingly VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) business environment, Carney’s ‘boring power’ provides valuable lessons worth examining.

The ‘Strategic Stillness’ Advantage

Carney’s measured bearing stands in stark contrast to many of today’s high-profile leaders, and his composed demeanour has proven effective across diplomatic, financial and policy arenas. This approach was evident during the Prime Minister’s meeting with President Donald Trump on May 6th of this year. His calm presence in the pressure of the Oval Office appeared to shift the dynamic from confrontational to collaborative, with more warmth being shown than had been the case between the President and Carney’s predecessor. This ‘strategic stillness’ has characterized the Canadian Prime Minister’s entire career. During his tenure as governor of the Bank of England, he navigated the 2016 Brexit fallout and the onset of COVID-19 with the same measured composure. Despite these conditions, Carney became one of the longest-serving governors in the Bank’s history.

Research supports the wisdom of this approach for leaders who value sustainability over column inches. A Harvard Business Review study found that “how [CEOs] respond under pressure” makes a lasting impression on the people around them. It concluded by saying, “While it isn’t easy to step up to your best under pressure, it is incredibly important.”

Technical Mastery into Leadership Leverage

Behind Carney’s composed exterior lies exceptional technical expertise. His Harvard and Oxford education and 13 years at Goldman Sachs gave him a rock-solid foundation for his central banking career. The technical mastery forged over decades allowed him to communicate complex economic principles with authority, even when the news he had to deliver wasn’t what the markets or politicians wanted to hear.

Several sources agree that this ability to translate complex monetary concepts to different stakeholders is the factor that can make or break financial endeavours. For CEOs, the lesson is clear: technical know-how combined with clear communication gives you a strategic advantage. Embrace the credibility that comes with the breadth of business experience, but never forget that leverage is built when you communicate this experience with clarity.

Building Trust Through Consistency

Throughout his career, Carney has prioritized institutional credibility over personal visibility. His approach to leadership has focused more on building trust through consistent messaging than cultivating a charismatic public persona. This consistency was evident in his handling of forward guidance at the Bank of England during the Brexit transition. Rather than making abrupt policy shifts, Carney publicly emphasized the Bank’s commitment to providing ‘relative guidance’ and conditioned his forecasts on evolving data and market expectations.

Studies highlight that open and candid communication from leaders fosters trust, enhances employee engagement and supports organizational change. In short, CEOs who provide predictable, measured leadership during uncertainty create the psychological safety that teams need to perform at their best.

Balancing Multiple Stakeholders

Perhaps Carney’s most transferable skill for CEOs is his ‘everyman’ ability to address multiple audiences simultaneously. Throughout his career, observers have noted his ability to communicate across constituencies with differing interests. As Bank of England governor, he balanced the interests of financial markets, politicians and the broader public. As UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, he worked at the intersection of public policy, financial markets, and climate science. And as his 2021 book Value(s): Building a Better World for All shows, his decision to explicitly address the challenge of balancing economic priorities with broader societal needs was conscious and intentional. Today’s CEOs who face similar complexity should take heed and seek equilibrium rather than bowing to single-issue stakeholders.

Be ‘Boring’ in a Crisis

Crisis management is where Carney’s ‘boring power’ really shines bright. His methodical approach, clear communication, evidence-based decision-making and forward planning during turbulent times have proven effective on multiple occasions throughout his career. During the 2008 financial crisis, Carney’s measured response at Canada’s central bank helped the country avoid the worst of the crisis. A 2024 IMF working paper emphasized his communication and forward guidance as key success factors during the Brexit transition period.

A 2021 Global Crisis Survey by PwC found that organizations with strategic, well-integrated crisis response plans and leadership teams are significantly better positioned to maintain operations and recover from disruptions. As CEOs navigate today’s complex risk landscape of geopolitical tensions, A.I. disruption and climate change, Carney’s boring-but-effective crisis management offers a template.

Putting ‘Boring Power’ to Work

How can CEOs cultivate methodical, adaptive and communicative traits? Three actionable steps stand out.

  1. Be strategically restrained: Carney can hold competing ideas in tension without rushing towards a premature resolution. He focuses on synthesising opposing views rather than making binary decisions. This allows him to reach nuanced outcomes that acknowledge complexity.
  2. Invest in becoming a wider subject matter expert: Carney’s power comes partly from his unique background in investment banking, central banking, climate finance and diplomacy. He has expanded his technical understanding into adjacent areas. This gives him credibility with multiple stakeholders and positions him as a strategic leader rather than a tactical expert.
  3. Practice clear and calibrated communication: Carney’s communication is notable for its precision and how he adapts it to specific audiences. As George Bernard Shaw allegedly said, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Don’t let this be you.

In a world where disruptive leadership gets the headlines, Carney’s ‘boring power’ offers a compelling alternative. The evidence suggests that a methodical, technically sound, consistent approach may be exactly what organizations need to navigate today’s complex challenges. Perhaps boring isn’t so boring after all.

Sen. Mullin: Plane fom Qatar ‘Has Been In Negotiations’ Under Biden

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) pointed out that talks regarding Qatar giving the United States a plane to temporarily replace Air Force One began under the Biden administration.

In an interview on CNN, Mullin pointed out that the U.S. needed a temporary replacement for Air Force One since President Donald Trump was “flying around on a 40-year-old plane.”

“Here’s what’s interesting to me, what the media isn’t telling you — what no one’s talking to you about, is the same 747 has been in negotiations for a year,” Mullin said. “The Biden administration is the one that started these conversations. It didn’t start underneath the Trump administration. Why? Because we need a back-up for Air Force One.”

“The President of the United States is flying around on a 40-year-old plane, and there is no back-up for it,” Mullin continued. “The back-up we had, the air frame started having structural issues. No one’s discussing that part.”

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump noted that the Department of Defense was “getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE” to temporarily replace Air Force One. Trump wrote:

So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40 year old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane. Anybody can do that! The Dems are World Class Losers!!! MAGA.

“Sources familiar with the proposed arrangement” for Qatar to gift the U.S. a luxury Boeing 747 told ABC News that ownership of the plane will “initially be transferred to the United States Air Force.” Before Trump leaves office in 2029, ownership of “flying palace” will be transferred to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation:

The plane will initially be transferred to the United States Air Force, which will modify the 13-year-old aircraft to meet the U.S. military specifications required for any aircraft used to transport the president of the United States, multiple sources familiar with the proposed arrangement said.

The plane will then be transferred to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation no later than Jan. 1, 2029, and any costs relating to its transfer will be paid for by the U.S. Air Force, the sources told ABC News.

Breitbart News’s Nick Gilbertson reported that Trump was asked by an ABC News reporter what he would say to people who see the plane “as a personal gift” to him. Trump responded by telling the reporter that he should be “embarrassed” for asking that question.

The reporter began to ask Trump what he would say to those “who view that luxury jet as a personal gift to you; why not leave it—”

Trump then interjected, “You’re ABC fake news, right?”

“Let me tell you, you should be embarrassed asking that question,” the president continued. “They’re giving us a free jet. I could say, ‘No, no, no…I want to pay you a billion or $400 million, or what it is.’ Or I could say, ‘Thank you very much.’”

Ali Al-Ansari, Qatar’s Media Attaché to the U.S., previously described reports that Qatar was gifting a plane to the U.S. during Trump’s visit to Qatar as “inaccurate” and said the “possible transfer” of a plane to the U.S. was “under consideration.”

“Reports that a jet is being gifted by Qatar to the United States government during the upcoming visit of President Trump are inaccurate,” Al-Ansari said in a statement. “The possible transfer of an aircraft for temporary use as Air Force One is currently under consideration between Qatar’s Ministry of Defense and the US Department of Defense, but the matter remains under review by the respective legal departments, and no decision has been made.”

Rubio says U.S. will find out if Russia is

Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke on the phone Saturday with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to get a readout on the latest talks, as the U.S. tries to determine whether Russia is “tapping us along” in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

“We talked about a variety of things,” Rubio told “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” in an interview airing Sunday. “I wanted to get his readout on his view of how the talks went yesterday. They were not a complete waste of time.”

The phone call between the countries’ top diplomats occurred a day after Moscow and Kyiv held the first direct talks in three years. Russian President Vladimir Putin spurned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s offer to meet face-to-face in Turkey after he proposed direct negotiations and instead sent a lower-level delegation.

The talks in Istanbul Friday broke up after fewer than two hours without a ceasefire, although both sides agreed on exchanging 1,000 prisoners of war each.

The United States — along with its European allies — have been pushing Russia and Ukraine for an end to the three-year war. President Trump, who has expressed frustration with the stalled talks and threatened to stiffen American sanctions unless progress is made toward a peace deal, said Saturday he will be speaking with Putin by phone Monday. That call will be followed by one with Zelenskyy, Mr. Trump said.

“Are they tapping us along? Well, that’s what we’re trying to find out,” Rubio told Brennan when asked if Russia and Ukraine are seeking to talk to “buy time.” “We’ll find out pretty soon.”

He added, “On the one hand, we’re trying to achieve peace and end a very bloody, costly and destructive war. So, there’s some element of patience that is required. On the other hand, we don’t have time to waste. There are a lot of other things happening in the world that we also need to be paying attention to.”

The secretary of state said he believes the only way that these talks will move forward is if Mr. Trump and Putin meet in person. He said Mr. Trump has publicly offered to meet one-on-one.

“The mechanics of setting that kind of meeting up would require a little bit of work, so I can’t say that’s being planned as we speak in terms of picking a site and a date,” Rubio said. “But the president wants to do it. He wants to do it as soon as feasible.”

The Vatican has made a “very generous offer” to host any peace talks. Rubio, who is in Rome to attend the Mass for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV Sunday, said the Vatican would be a place that “all parties would feel comfortable.”

Leo, who was elected as the first U.S.-born pope on May 8, took up Pope Francis’ call for peace in Ukraine in his first Sunday noon blessing as pope. He appealed for all sides to do whatever possible to reach “an authentic, just and lasting peace.”

Trump warns Walmart against raising prices, tells company to

President Trump ripped into Walmart, saying on social media Saturday that the retail giant should “eat the tariffs” instead of blaming the duties on imported goods imposed by his administration for its increased prices.

Walmart on Thursday warned that everything from bananas to children’s car seats could increase in price despite the softer tariffs on China.

“We can control what we can control,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said on the company’s first quarter earnings call Thursday. “Even at the reduced levels, the higher tariffs will result in higher prices,” he added.

The price hikes are expected to go into effect later this month.

As Mr. Trump has jacked up import taxes, he has tried to assure a skeptical public that foreign producers would pay for those taxes and that retailers and automakers would absorb the additional expenses.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, the president lashed out at Walmart – which employs some 1.6 million people in the United States – and said the company should sacrifice its profits for the sake of his economic agenda. Mr. Trump says his economic plan will eventually lead to more domestic jobs in manufacturing.

“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump posted. “Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, “EAT THE TARIFFS,” and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

A spokesperson for Walmart told CBS News on Saturday that it has always worked to keep prices as low as possible and “we won’t stop.”

“We’ll keep prices as low as we can for as long as we can given the reality of small retail margins,” the spokesperson said.

The threat by the Republican president reflected the increasingly awkward series of choices that many major American companies face as a result of his tariffs, from deteriorating sales to the possibility of incurring Mr. Trump’s wrath. Mr. Trump has similarly warned domestic automakers not to raise their prices, even though outside analyses say his tariffs would raise production costs.

In April, McMillon was among the retail executives who met with Mr. Trump at the White House to discuss tariffs and potential negative outcomes. But the Trump administration went forward despite warnings and has attacked other companies, such as Amazon and Apple, that are struggling with the disruptions to their supply chains.

Walmart chief financial officer John David Rainey said he thinks $350 car seats made in China will soon cost an additional $100, a 29% price increase.

“We’re wired to keep prices low, but there’s a limit to what we can bear, or any retailer for that matter,” he told The Associated Press on Thursday after the company reported strong first-quarter sales.

Many U.S. companies have either slashed or pulled their full-year expectations in the wake of tariffs, as consumers curtail spending.

The administration recently ratcheted down its 145% tariffs on China to 30% for a 90-day period. Trump has placed tariffs as high as 25% on Mexico and Canada due to illegal immigration and drug trafficking, harming the relationship with America’s two largest trading partners.

There is a universal baseline tariff of 10% for most countries as Trump promises to reach trade deals in the coming weeks, all while insisting he intends to preserve the tariffs as a revenue source. The framework agreement with the United Kingdom would largely keep the 10% tariff rate in place.

Trump has also placed import taxes on autos, steel and aluminum and plans to do so on pharmaceutical drugs, among other products.
