2025 GWM Tank 300 price and specs

UPDATED 21/05/2025 9:00am: GWM confirmed last week it would axe a pair of Tank 300 variants and give petrol and hybrid versions upgrades made to the diesel version. We’ve updated this article accordingly and pulled it forward.

The GWM Tank 300 gained diesel power in March, specifically the same engine found in the Cannon and Cannon Alpha utes.

More than 20 engineering enhancements applied to the diesel-powered Tank 300 have now been extended to petrol and hybrid variants – for no extra charge, with pricing remaining unchanged.

These enhancements include larger front brake rotors and calipers, a reinforced prop shaft, upgraded wheel bearings, and strengthened front suspension knuckles.

Diesel-powered Tank 300s can tow 3000kg, and now these upgrades see the petrol and hybrid variants’ towing capacity bumped up from 2500kg to 3000kg as well.

Payload has also been increased to a minimum of 600kg (Ultra Hybrid) and a maximum of 610kg (Ultra petrol). Again, this effectively matches diesel vehicles which have a payload of 600kg.

Petrol and hybrid Tank 300s previously had maximum payload figures of 397kg and 420kg, respectively.

The large off-road SUV range opens at $47,990 drive-away for diesel Lux. Petrol and hybrid Lux variants have been axed, as GWM notes the diesel engine is proving more popular than the other powertrains.

Pricing for diesel Tank 300 vehicles is actually cheaper than had previously been reported, to the tune of $1500.

While the Tank 300 can now tow 3000kg with each of its powertrains, it still falls short of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner’s 3100kg figures, as well as the class-leading 3500kg offered by the Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X.

The Tank 300’s higher towing capacity pushes it into the “heavy off-road passenger vehicles” category under the incoming New Vehicle Efficiency Standard emissions regulations from the Australian Government.

The government says a “heavy off-road passenger vehicle” is an MC-category vehicle with a rated towing capacity of three tonnes or more, and featuring body-on-frame construction. This puts the Tank 300 in a category with a higher CO2 emissions target.
