Will Horton (6-0, 6-0) and Nick Connolly (6-0, 6-0) won their singles matches in straight sets, while Ryan Abreau and Eugene Jung (6-2, 6-0) and Jared Freitas and Cory Dugdale (6-1, 6-0) won their doubles matches as No. 4 Apponequet (17-1) defeated No. 29 Hanover 5-0 in the Div. 3 Round of 32.
Nikhil Ponnusamy and Sam Ren took No. 1 doubles (6-4, 6-2) to prove the difference for No. 13 Westford Academy (10-4) in a 3-2 win over No. 20 Lincoln-Sudbury in Div. 1 first round action. Saunak Manna (6-1, 6-0) and Preet Mood (6-4, 6-1) also each won in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
In a Div. 2 first round matchup that saw No. 1 and No. 2 singles narrowly drop tough matches, No. 3 singles TJ Kelly paired with doubles teams Jayden Janock/Ty Cooper and Anthony Vizy/Austin Bacon to each win in straight sets and propel No. 13 Marblehead (16-2) over No. 20 Algonquin, 3-2.
Roman Pavluchenko, Ryan Casey and Zack Shields each took their singles matchups, pacing No. 3 Monomoy (16-3) in a 5-0 win over No. 30 Bartlett in the Div. 4 first round.
GIRLS TENNIS
Evelyn Francis controlled play in No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-1), and the doubles teams of Riley Florindo/Lan Tran and Julianna Frye/Yvonne Pina-Monteiro each gritted out tough matchups to power No. 32 Wareham (10-11) in a 4-1 Div. 3 preliminary win over No. 33 Groton-Dunstable.
Stella Zachos won her third singles matchup in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) to secure a 3-2 Div. 2 first round victory for No. 11 Oliver Ames (14-3) over No. 22 Holliston.
Sophie Kim’s 6-0, 6-0 showing in No. 3 singles highlighted a dominant showing for No. 8 Winchester (16-3), which didn’t drop a set in a 5-0 Div. 1 first round win over No. 25 King Philip.
