    For entertainment, it’s great!
Yes, it’s a campy plot and script (WHY would Mason – Ice T – accept a job as a “survival guide” when he knew nothing about the area or the conditions of where they were going or anything about hunting as well…??); having said that, it IS “entertaining” and what’s strange about this film is I feel the need to pull it off the shelf & watch it from time to time. I’m being quite generous here, but I’m giving it a 5-star rating anyway – just for the scenery, the background music, and the fact that it’s a greatly-revised version of the original film “The Most Dangerous Game” from back in the late ’20’s or early ’30’s. Yes, the acting was “mediocre” at best (Gary Busey’s tome’ about how he got his “birth mark” was unique), but I feel that purely for the entertainment value, it was still a pretty good flick. One of the other reviewers, however, did trigger something in the back of my mind: Ice-T’s character of Mason, a homeless guy desperate for money, upon accepting this”hunting guide” job, CONTINUOUSLY “bad-mouths” these guys constantly, right up to the point where he gets woken up by Charles S. Dutton’s character waving a chromed .50 caliber Desert Eagle pistol in his face. Look, if I had been Mason’s character for real, I would’ve gone out of my way to be overly polite to these guys! Instead, Mason CONTINUOUSLY bad-mouths these guys all the time. “Hunt animals in the wilderness? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard…!!” “Sounds f’ked up to me…!!” “That’s stupid!” And on and on and on. Nothing but extreme “negativity” out of Mason’s mouth to the guy(s) who offered him a good-paying job..!! That, alone, made me feel a lot less “sympathy” towards Mason’s character as the pmitt unfolded later in the film. There were other “things” that were puzzling, as well: Mason’s “return to Seattle” after only 3 day’s time. Considering where they were at, and how long in a Beechcraft D-18 it took them to fly through the wilderness to get to the cabin in the first place; how did Mason manage to make it back to Seattle in only 3 day’s time? 3 weeks, perhaps, I could better understand. But three (3) days?? Naaaah. And finally, one other little bit of trivia: when Mason runs back to the cabin after being chased, one of the very first things he does is smash the lock on the interior door to see what’s behind it. When he opens the door, the first thing he does is reach over &”FLIP ON A LIGHT SWITCH..!!” Maybe someone would explain to me “WHERE DID THE ELECTRICITY COME FROM” to turn on the lights?? This is a log (or wood) cabin in the wilderness. As we saw from the view from the Beechcraft coming into the area where the cabin wax situated, there were no “solar panel arrays” on the roof of the cabin. Batteries?? Perhaps, but we are also led to believe that is cabin is visited perhaps only once or maybe twice a year. So where did the electricity cone from..?? They didn’t use candles if you recall, at least not much. Look, I’m still gonna give this flick a “5-star” rating, just for the entertainment factor. But should the producers ever decide to do a remake of this movie, I’d hope they would pay a little greater attention to “the little details”. It would make this film a lot more enjoyable rather than coming across as “campy” or in some cases, downright silly…!! My opinion..!!

    Awesome 90’s Action
I am not a big Ice T fan but he was perfect in this movie even though the dread wig in the beginning is horrible, lol. Rutger Hauer, Gary Busey, Charles S Dutton and F Murray Abraham all put in great performances.

I would like for you to put this back on Prime video
I love how the movie really show you if your in a situation similar to this movie. It actually show you how you can survive, not to give up because you don’t no where you are, your not extremely powerless, that you can get out most situations but you have to let fear take over and push you into survival mode, you have know choice but to submit to God and remember that your life is worth fighting for. Also because your grown, homeless doesn’t mean that your giving up. You keep finding reasons to live which forces you to go into a life or death situation and most of the time you can get out of any situation that is harmful, or deadly to your family or yourself. This movie basically teaches you not to trust anyone, go with anyone anywhere especially if you don’t know them and out the blue your offered jobs, money, shelter, trips but not a reason as to why someone want to do all this for me, why just me when you could have been looking for someone who isn’t homeless, a person that has nothing but now that person is beneficial to others, without any knowledge or understanding of what it is that make you think I’m important and you need my skills, you can be trained to do whatever is necessary to for fill what ever it is that made you interested in yourself. To me this movie teaches us how to survive any circumstances

Tries Too Hard…But Does the Job
This movie is worth seeing for Ice T alone. He’s brilliant. As an actor, he’s not technically skilled…but he definitely gets himself into his role and does a lot more with his natural ability than many actors could do after years and years of training. As a modern day adaptation of “The Most Dangerous Game” (which is a truly phenomenal film — if you watched this one, you should check that earlier film out — you will be amazed for several reasons), this film shoots itself in the foot by giving the “game” away in the opening titles. But it makes up for that by developing the story of the central character played by Ice T and using that character as a more deeply imagined hero. As Mason, a way down and out homeless man, Ice T is very convincing. He seems to have been driven nearly wild even as the film opens…living on the streets surviving like an animal. Willing to stop at little or nothing to stay alive. But then life turns dramatically sour even for Mason and he wants a way out. Ready to kill himself, he is pulled back from the brink and offered a chance to get on his feet. Mason is a fighter and he accepts the offer. Grudgingly…but with the appreciation that this could be his only chance. He is then brought to a wilderness cabin thinking he will act as a hunting guide. The crew of actors who play the hunting group are amazing — all of them have made careers out of being wonderful sociopaths. And at times, things get a little hammy but director Ernest Dickerson — making a very interesting choice of projects here — keeps things from going too far over the top. In no time at all, the hunt is on and Mason realizes what his role is in it. He must survive the challenge using his wits and his will. From that point on, the movie runs at a breakneck pace — pausing shortly to catch its breath. Toward the end, there is one major continuity goof (night in the wilderness lasts only about 10 minutes and then the sun appears again approaching midday)…but you can ignore it and pay attention to the action. That’s what films like this are about afterall. Enjoy the ride and don’t examine it too much.
