$17.49$30.99 (-44%)
An inclusive and essential new resource for reproductive health―including period problems, pelvic pain, menopause, fertility, sexual health, vaginal and urinary conditions, and overall wellbeing―from leading expert and fierce advocate Dr. Karen Tang
“Dr. Karen Tang is a literal godsend to women in a time still filled with great ignorance in medical research and financing of women’s health initiatives. Please read her book, follow her on Instagram as I have, and feel blessed as I do to have an advocate for our body, our health, and our human rights.” ―Sharon Stone
Did you know that up to 90% of women experience menstrual abnormalities or pelvic issues in their lifetime? Yet these conditions are overwhelmingly misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed. The root causes for these issues, such as PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, PMDD, or pelvic floor dysfunction, don’t receive the stream of funding for research and new treatments that other conditions do, despite affecting up to half the population.
Dr. Karen Tang is on a mission to transform how we engage with our bodies and our healthcare. It’s Not Hysteria is a comprehensive guide to common conditions and potential treatment options, with practical tools such as symptom prompts and sample questions for your provider, to equip readers to take control of their gynecologic health.
Reproductive healthcare, from abortion to gender-affirming care, is under siege. The onus continues to fall on patients to find and advocate for the care they need. In the face of uncertainty and misinformation, It’s Not Hysteria is destined to become a new classic that educates and empowers women and those assigned female at birth.

Long Overdue & Awaited Book is PERFECTION!!!
I donât know how to begin my review for my FAVORITE nonfiction writer and medical professional.Let me say, Iâm not a huge book reader, I typically go for the audiobooks. Second, I DEFINITELY do not check a lot of medically-based books because I feel out of place and so many things go over my head! But⦠Dr. Karen Tang takes ALL of the advanced medical jargon/information, then makes it so incredibly easy to understand. She doesnât water down anything, talk down to the reader, fear-mongers, or sells anything to you. Sheâs completely relatable (to all ages), and wants to arm the reader with REAL facts, with a demand they advocate for the best medical care/treatment.We should not have to bounce through so many physicians like weâve done in the past, and neither should our children, younger family members, or friends. (Personally, I lost track of how many male physicians medically gaslit my symptoms, concerns, and my voice.)In this book, I learned infinitely MORE medical history in one tiny section (on how women were treated) THAN ANY documentary, school course, book, show, movie, etc. She was incredibly smart to put that in the beginning!! Puts everything in perspective. Wowza. As a first-gen American on one side, which also happens to be the maternal side, there were SO MANY THINGS that I was told over the years (and especially during all pregnancies!) that were part ridiculous, confusing, and âare you fâing kidding me, Iâm in my mid-30sâ. lolThen, to be raised in a very conservative and religious household, oh man, I WISH I HAD THIS BOOK.There are not âwild, smutty, or salaciousâ items inside (hereâs hoping itâs in the sequel tho⦠jk), instead ONLY BASIC MEDICAL FACTS. Something that is so simple, crucial, and yet so damn hard to find, and out of all places, inside a doctorâs office!Bravo, Dr. Karen Tang!! Thank you for your service in treating others, tirelessly advocating for us, and now with this book, informing future generations so they wonât have to go through what we did. We are SO proud, and beyond grateful for your patience and arduous efforts so we can have a fighting chance.P.S. Like I said before, Iâm not a typical book/kindle reader, and yet I ordered about a DOZEN books for fam, friends, and my little girl (for future use). The book is THAT damn good. Those that wrote the other reviews donât know what theyâre talking about. I would be surprised they even read the first handful of pages.

great 101!
As a RN and soon to be Women’ Health NP I approve and encourage reading this book.Easy and fun to read. Accurate and up to date information. This is not a textbook but great for an over view on all the important topics of female or AFAB needs and care. You don’t have to be in the medical field to understand it as it’s written with basic education in mind. At the same time, even with my level of academia and experience I still really enjoyed.I’m already recommending to family, friends, patients, and colleagues. I’m also going to request this at my local libraries. This book is great for all ages and even males or AMAB. ‘Should be a required high school read as well.

Important for every womanâ¦and man! to read
This book is incredibly important and timely for every adult to read to better understand a womanâs body and reproductive systems. Honestly, every member of Congress should be forced to 1. Read this book, and 2. Give a detailed, accurate power point presentation of at least one chapter to their peers in order to keep their seats.

Educational / Good read for patients and professionals
First off, I would like to say I enjoy reading this book. It is ver organized, the information flows and it is something that I could recommend to a peer or a patient. It isnât meant to be oversimplifying things nor making the information inaccessible to a layman person. If you as a person would like to get a good explanation of the many things that affect women and what we do for that at this time. This is a good book. However, if you want a medical textbook as if youâre reading something exclusively for medical professionals with heavy jargon and algorithms then this isnât your book. This book is meant to educate of basic problems women are brushed off about. It is meant to redirect our thoughts to what we experience. To learn about basic women ailments. Not an encyclopedia.

Not a fun book, but important info
I canât say I enjoyed reading this book. Much of the book was about the heartbreaking and painful challenges women face. But I kept with it because I think itâs important for women to understand more about their bodies -and I have a daughter whoâs just beginning puberty and I want to be able to openly discuss any issues she or her friends might be having. The book also helped me understand more clearly some of my own minor issues. Definitely important knowledge.

Made me cry on page 3
Iâve been having problems for 12 years and doctors have been no help. I had a procedure that left me with no answers and feeling hopeless. This book has pointed me in the right direction and put wind in my sails. This book is absolutely PHENOMENAL. Iâve recommended it to every woman in my life because I think it should be a school textbook it is so good. It truly is so impactful and I will be taking it with me to all of my appointments. MUST BUY MUST READ!!!!

If you already have an average / little above average knowledge abt the topics, then this book stays way too much on the surface. I was rather disappointed

10/10 highly recommend this book! Going to be given as a gift to all of the loved ones in my life. This information can help so many of those born with a uterus, but is also valuable knowledge everyone should have a basic understanding of. As a pelvic floor physiotherapist, I will be using it frequently as a reference and resource for my patients. The writing style and language choices make this an accessible read for all. Thank you Dr Karen Tang
