Then she puts the power in your hands, teaching you how to bring three potent probiotic foods—kefir, kombucha, and cultured vegetables—into your diet. Following the advice in these pages, along with her 21-day program, you can easily (and deliciously!) flood your system with billions of good bacteria, which will balance your body and allow it to heal naturally.

In this book, you’ll find:

A great introduction to making and eating/drinking cultured foods
A great introduction to making and eating/drinking cultured foods. Lots of good advice and recipes for Kefir, Kombucha and cultured vegetables. These foods are loaded with natural good bacteria that does amazing things for your overall health. This book makes it easy to get started.Donna Schwenk (author) also has a great website that is very helpful culturedfoodlife.comI started consuming cultured foods a few months ago. Buying them gets pretty expensive. Thanks to Donna, I now make delicious kefir daily and have a continuous brew system for Kombucha. Cultured vegetables have a sour kraut taste and may not be for everyone. I happen to love them. They are super simple to make and consume with her tips and recipes.

A book that combines science and creativity
This is a book that combines science and creativity: you are first introduced to a lot of education on human microbes, scientific support on how fermented foods support health, and the importance of both probiotics and prebiotics; then, there is a myriad of recipes you can follow from basics to more creative ones. The book is filled with valuable information that opens my eyes to opportunities that fermented foods can bring me to improve the my health and the health of my family. What I love is that this book has a nice mix of science, anecdotal stories from Donna’s readers, and her personal and family stories. From both scientific and experiential perspectives, they give me a more holistic view on the healing power behind fermented foods at different angles. I also like the tone of the book, which makes me feel that I was hearing Donna talking to myself as I was reading the book.Overall, it’s a wise investment for your health!

    Life saver!
I’m a huge fan of Donna! I bought kefir grains and a kombucha kit from her. My family has been using her tips and foods to get healthy. I was sick with one cold after the next, and my family easily passed germs around. Until we started drinking kefir, that is. We’ve been the healthiest versions of ourselves ever! My son had seizures from a gluten sensitivity years ago. He accidentally got glutened a few days ago (mistook a flour tortilla for corn). Instead of a seizure, migraine, or the usually out of control feeling and irritability – he was fine. My father had been sick in the hospital for months when I heard of kefir and Donna. He was on many antibiotics. He had gotten pneumonia, infections, c diff, and even MRSA. I knew his immune system needed help, but I didn’t know how. I started to force him to drink kefir as soon as he was able to eat. Wouldn’t you know it…he started turning the corner. God nudged us to this. It’s been an important part of my life, and I tell everyone about donna and her books!

    The Best Cookbook Ever!
I’ve suffered from serious stomach problems since I was a child so discovering fermented foods has been a life-changing experience for me. I’ve made at least a third of the recipes in this book in the last three months and every recipe has been great! The “Earth and Sunshine Dip” is made from peas and kefir cheese as its base with a magic combination of herbs and veggies added and my family can’t get enough of it! It tastes fantastic! The “Raw Kefir Pumpkin Pie” recipe is amazingly like a a combination of pumpkin pie and cheesecake and the “Overnight Kefir Brownie Pudding” is to die for! The “Kefir Eggs With a Side of Veggies” has turned my daughter into an egg eater for the first time in her life. She called me this week to tell me that she made it at home with goat kefir and goat cheese. Honestly, every recipe I’ve tried so far is a keeper and I’m just getting started on making kombucha at home, so I’m sure I’m going to love those recipes as well. I’ve purchased several fermented foods cookbooks, but I can already tell that Donna’s are going to be my absolute favorites! She’s opened up a new world of healthful and pain-free living for me. I’m so grateful.

    Great cultured food information!
The simple steps to making our own fermented and cultured foods were so easy to understand, and I’m excited to try a bunch of the recipes that the author listed in the book.

    Small print
Good information I just wish the print was darker and bigger. Hard for me to read. Pages feel cheap quality, I like my kitchen books to have more durability in case I get ingredients on them while making recipes.

    Life changing results for me…
I have suffered with IBS for nearly a year, and for the last 6 months have had crippling stomach pains twice a day for a couple of hours at a time. But 2 weeks ago, after reading Donna’s writings, I started drinking Kombucha (store bought) and my symptoms reduced by about 90%….. then a week ago I started making Kefir at home, as per Donna’s super easy instructions, and my symptoms have totally stopped 100%… and I haven’t even started on the cultured veggies yet!I owe it all to Donna and her life changing book. Thank you!PS. For those concerned with “buying starters” etc. Just get online, do a bit of searching and you’ll find plenty of local places to get hold of it. I’m currently in New Zealand and have found everything I need just by looking around and asking locals.

Excellent book! The health info in the beginning of Donnas book is informative and I am grateful to learn all the things that can be helped by cultured food. We are absolutely loving the foods, the kombuchas, kefirs, cheeses, fermented veg, etc, etc. My kitchen’s appearance has changed from all my culturing activity, to maintain our health, improve it, and prevent some of the real baddies. I encourage all my friends and acquaintances to get this book, learn from it, and get culturing right now! It’s a good thing in our lives.
