Helix Twilight Mattress review in brief
The Helix Twilight is a firm hybrid mattress aimed at side sleepers. Generally, side sleepers benefit from a softer surface that allows for plenty of cushioning at the pressure points of the shoulders and hips. We were curious to find out if the firmer Helix Twilight would have enough of that sink-in softness to keep side sleepers happy.
For one month, we slept on a full-size Helix Twilight to see how well it performed in key areas based on real-world use and objective tests. Our complete Helix Twilight Mattress review is below but we’ve summed it up here for those of you who are short on time…

Helix makes some of the best mattresses on the market, with options to suit every style of sleep. The Helix Midnight Luxe (for side sleepers) and Helix Dusk Luxe (for back/stomach sleepers) are among the highest-rated beds our team have tested.
The Helix Twilight Mattress is a part of the brand’s Core Collection. Like the best hybrid mattresses, the Twilight has firmer foams and wrapped coils that are reinforced along the sides. The intention is to create a mattress for side sleepers who prefer a firmer sleep surface.
Our main tester is a combination side/back sleeper with a lightweight build who prefers a firmer bed. The Helix Twilight certainly delivers that — we rate it an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Our tester didn’t feel much sinkage around the shoulders and hips at first, but as the night would progress, it would start to gently contour her body. It provides firm support with cushioning around the pressure points for side sleeping.
Despite the firmer feel, our lead tester didn’t find the bed comfortable for back sleeping at all. As a back pain sufferer, she found the Helix Twilight lacking in lumbar support and the cushioning effect at her shoulders exacerbated her neck pain when flat on her back. It’s not supportive enough at the hips for stomach sleeping, either.
Temperature regulation and motion isolation were both excellent on the Helix Twilight. The mattress has great edge support along the sides, but it’s woefully lacking at the head and foot of the bed, as the coils aren’t reinforced in those areas. (The Helix Luxe and Elite series of mattresses have stronger coils along the entire perimeter of the surface.)
Overall, the Helix Twilight is a bit of a niche buy. It’s suited to those who have a heavier build or just prefer a firmer sleep surface. Back and stomach sleepers who aren’t too fussy or don’t suffer with any aches and pains may also find it comfortable but in our opinion, this is strictly a mattress for side sleepers.
The Helix Twilight is discounted during regular mattress sales, with a queen usually going for under $1,000. A 100-night risk-free trial is included, as is a lifetime warranty. For more details on pricing, performance, and setup, our full Helix Twilight Mattress is below…

Helix Twilight Mattress Review: Design & Materials
- An 11.5” mattress with five layers and a cover
- Option to upgrade to a GlacioTex cooling cover
- Reinforced coils lengthways for edge support
The Helix Twilight is a hybrid mattress with coils and foams. It’s topped with a breathable knit cover. If you’re a hot sleeper, there is also the option to upgrade to a GlacioTex cooling cover for an extra $299. GlacioTex is a material more commonly found in the best cooling mattresses.
Underneath the cover is a layer of high-density, copper gel-infused memory foam. Copper is renowned for its ability to regulate temperature, and the memory foam helps alleviate pressure points. Next up is a firm layer of Helix’s proprietary Responsive Foam. This cradles and contours to the body to give support where it’s needed.
Another layer of firm Helix Responsive Foam sits on top of a layer of up to 1,000 individually wrapped coils for motion isolation and ergonomic support. The coils are reinforced lengthways for extra edge support, but not at the head and foot of the bed. Finally, a DuraDense foam base layer adds stability to the mattress and keeps the whole structure supported.
Helix Twilight Mattress review: Comfort & support
- We rated the Twilight as a firm mattress (8 out of 10)
- Works well for side sleeping, but may be too firm for lighter bodies
- Despite its firmness, not great for back and stomach sleeping
With its firm feel (we rate it an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale), side sleepers typically wouldn’t be the first people we’d think of when recommending the Helix Twilight. But this is precisely what the mattress is designed for — and surprisingly, it does a great job of providing firm support whilst cushioning pressure points at the shoulders and hips.
We believe dedicated side sleepers will really enjoy this mattress, particularly those of an average and heavier build. The firmer feel could also be a great fit for side sleepers with back pain, who will find their spines kept aligned.
Our main tester, who is of a lightweight build, did notice a little bit of pressure building up on her right hip over the testing period. If you’re also a side sleeper on the lighter side, we recommend a medium to medium-firm mattress such as the Helix Midnight Mattress.
Given its firmer feel, we were expecting the Helix Twilight to be suitable for back and stomach sleepers as well, but we didn’t feel it was a great fit for either. Our combo-sleeping main tester found the mattress downright uncomfortable for back sleeping, which exacerbated her existing neck pain. Due to the softer contouring around the shoulders and hips, the mattress also felt a little lacking in lumbar support when back sleeping.
Our main tester’s husband can sleep on pretty much anything but also doesn’t suffer with aches and pains. He found the mattress okay to sleep on whilst on his back, but he does spend far more time sleeping on his side. Others we invited to try the mattress also felt it was best suited to side sleeping. Few back and stomach sleepers may enjoy the Helix Twilight but, in the main, we don’t think there’s quite enough lumbar support in these positions to keep the spine aligned.
We objectively tested the sinkage of the Helix Twilight by placing a 44lb weight in the middle of the mattress, where it sank in by 4”, which is quite deep (especially for a firm mattress). Of course, firmness is subjective and heavily influenced by our body weight, so larger sleepers may find this mattress feels a little softer to them (and vice versa).
Helix Twilight Mattress Review: Performance
- Motion isolation is excellent for bed-sharers
- Great temperature regulation, even with the standard cover
- Excellent edge support lengthways; woefully lacking at head and foot
Our main tester and their husband slept on a full-size Helix Twilight Mattress for a month, inviting other adults of varying body types and sleeping styles to try it out to get a wider view of how the mattress feels.
As well as recording our own experiences, we also carried out several tests to gauge motion isolation, temperature regulation, and edge support according to our mattress methodology. Here’s what we learned…
Motion isolation
Motion isolation is important to consider if you’re sharing a bed, especially with a restless sleeper. Movement can reverberate across the mattress and disturb sleep — plus you don’t want a mattress that shifts markedly when someone gets in or out of it.
Due to the firmer feel of the Helix Twilight, our testers didn’t notice any motion transfer. We think that even the lightest of sleepers are unlikely to be disturbed by a fidgety partner on this bed.
To objectively gauge motion isolation, we dropped an 8.8lb weight from a low height at 25″, 10″, and 5″ across from an empty wine glass. The glass remained stable after the 25” and 10” drops, with a slight wobble at 5” away. This reflects our real-world experience — the Helix Twilight does an excellent job of absorbing movement.
Score: 5 out of 5
Temperature regulation
We tested the Helix Twilight during winter months, sleeping under a 10 tog duvet combined with a fake fur throw.
Our main tester is reptilian by nature and never feels hot in bed, whereas her husband is a hot sleeper and is used as the guinea pig for testing temperature. He slept comfortably on the mattress, feeling that it did an excellent job of dispersing heat and keeping him comfortable throughout the night.
Of course, we weren’t testing the Helix Twilight in particularly hot weather, but the combination of a breathable cover, copper gel-infused foam, and well-spaced coils should do an excellent job of keeping air flowing through the mattress whatever the season.
However, if you are a very hot sleeper, we’d recommend upgrading to the GlacioTex cover. It’s a material found on some of the best cooling mattresses.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Edge support
Good edge support means you can spread out and use the full width of the mattress, as well as sit comfortably on it. The Helix Twilight is a mattress of two halves when it comes to edge support.
Lengthways, the sides have reinforced coils for extra support, with the mattress sagging by 4” when placing our 44lb weight on the edge to test sinkage. This is the same sinkage as you get in the middle of the bed.
However, it’s a different story at the head and foot of the bed. The sinkage at these areas was 6”. When sitting on the end of the bed, our testers didn’t feel particularly stable and secure.
For reinforced edges around the whole perimeter of the mattress, you’ll need to upgrade to the more expensive Helix Twilight Luxe.
Score: 4 out of 5
Helix Twilight Mattress review: Delivery & setup
- Free delivery to your doorstep
- Option to upgrade to a white glove delivery service
- Needs time to fully inflate, about 4-6 hours
Because our main tester is based in the UK, the Helix Twilight was actually shipped to Tom’s Guide’s in-house studio first as a mattress in a box before being delivered to our tester’s home, fully formed, by a two-person crew. When you order a Helix, it will be delivered by FedEx, and you’ll receive updates on the shipping once you’ve chosen a delivery date.
Although Helix suggests that the mattress will fully expand after 45 minutes, we recommend leaving the mattress for around four to six hours to make sure it’s fully inflated before sleeping on it. It’s also worth noting that the mattress is fairly heavy so if you’re buying anything above a twin XL, we’d recommend paying the extra for white glove delivery (if available), so you don’t have to try and lug the mattress on your own.
One slightly annoying fact about the Helix Twilight is that it doesn’t have any handles, which does make moving it about a little trickier. Despite this, do remember to rotate the mattress regularly to keep it in top condition and extend its lifespan.
All Helix mattresses come with a 100-night trial period, which is average. You’ll need to wait 30 nights before exchanging or returning, although you can request a comfort layer at any time to adjust the firmness of the mattress. Helix has just upped its warranty from 10 years to a lifetime, although realistically, you’ll probably be replacing your mattress around the 7-10 year mark.
Helix Twilight Mattress review: User reviews
- Rated 4.4/5 stars from 1,900+ Helix shoppers (March 2025)
- Users are split on comfort — they either love it or hate it
- Regardless, Helix’s customer support scores high marks
As of March 2025, the Helix Midnight has over 1,900 customer reviews on Helix’s website, with an average score of 4.4 stars out of 5. You can filter reviews by date, rating, and keywords.
Most reviews are five stars, with reviewers praising the Helix Midnight for its firmness and pain relief for sore backs and hips. Negative feedback comes from shoppers who find it too firm (or not firm enough). Regardless of the outcome, most shoppers appreciate Helix’s quality of customer service.
Should you buy the Helix Twilight Mattress?
If you’re a dedicated side sleeper who likes a firmer surface, the Helix Twilight could be the perfect fit. It’ll also appeal to side sleepers with lower back pain, whose spines will be kept aligned and supported. Very lightweight side sleepers may find the mattress too firm though; the Helix Midnight series of mattresses are softer side sleeper beds.
Surprisingly, we didn’t think the Helix Twilight was suited for back and stomach sleeping. There’s just not quite enough lumbar support to keep the spine aligned and hips lifted in these positions. Take a look at our guide to the best mattresses for stomach sleepers if that’s what you need.
The bed performed well in all our tests. It’s a great pick for those who share their mattress with a restless partner thanks to its high level of motion isolation, and our testers maintained a comfortable temperature. Edge support is strong along the sides but lacking at the head and foot. (The Plank Firm Mattress boasts excellent edge-to-edge support.)
Overall, the Helix Twilight is a high-quality mattress that will appeal to its niche market. The bump from a 10-year warranty to lifetime coverage should offer greater peace of mind, too.
