Productivity tool Google Workspace intends to have Gemini and Generative AI (GenAI) as part of all its offerings, said, Sumedha Chakraborty, Country Head, Google Workspace, India & South Asia. Alongside, India has surpassed the US to become the biggest Gmail user base with the most monthly active users, she also said.
“We will continue embedding GenAI in all the current applications and enhance them. Google Workspace has three core pillars — creation, collaboration and control. Multiple applications in each pillar make it a single suite of products. We are also continuously enhancing our security offerings with GenAI,” she said.
The Google Workspace Media Summit themed ‘Bring AI to Work’ showcased the rapid adoption of AI at the workplace, with 31 per cent of leaders expecting substantial transformation from AI in less than one year. Almost 70 per cent of enterprises utilise ‘Help me Write’ in Docs or Gmail, incorporating Gemini’s suggestions, and over 75 per cent users generate images in slides. Google Workspace has over 3 billion monthly active users globally, and 10 million paying customers.
Transforming workspace
Customers from Indian enterprises like HCL Software, Zomato, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd and JK Cement are also using the tool.
Chakraborty said, “We are seeing incredible interest in Gemini for Workspace. It’s transforming how people work by boosting the efficiency, creativity, productivity and security of their organisations. We remain committed to advancing innovation while prioritising robust security and privacy measures. Our custom large language models (LLMs) are blocking more spam and responding to threats faster than ever before, reaffirming our commitment to innovation, productivity and security.”
According to Forrester’s Total Economic Impact study, Google Workspace saves companies 171 hours per user annually. It also reduces on-demand tech support costs by 20 per cent and delivers an ROI of 336 per cent.
With LLMs, Gmail’s spam protection has improved, blocking 20 per cent more spam and analysing 1,000x more user-reported spam daily. In Google Drive, LLMs have accelerated responses to novel spam and phishing attacks by 90percent, enhancing security response times. Further, AI-driven classification has enabled Google’s internal security teams to identify and organise 900 million internal files.
Benefits of GenAI
Elaborating on the benefits of incorporating GenAI into Workspace, she continued, “We have some initial numbers from our internal research. Every individual part of the small sample survey we did was set to save 105 minutes per week. There is also more potential.”
While Workspace has a huge market share in terms of digital natives, including in India, many traditional organisations not born on the cloud are also onboarding the platform, Chakraborty added.
“Companies born on cloud is where we have a natural affinity. However, traditional organisations are not left behind. The scale at which they are adopting is also increasing, in India as well as globally. They have seen real-time collaboration transform how they were working. The second is security. We built Workspace on the same platform Google was built on 30 years ago. It is also one of the most secure platforms to use across the board,” she said.
