Chris Kamara returning to football broadcasting two years after stepping back due to rare brain disorder

Football pundit Chris Kamara will return to screens on Boxing Day, two years after stepping away from broadcasting due to a rare neurological disorder.

Kamara said he will cover the Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur game alongside former Sky Sports colleague Jeff Stelling in the studio.

Posting on X, Kamara said he was “back” after having the “best phone call ever this afternoon” inviting him to work on the match for Amazon.

Kamara posted a picture of himself and Stelling, to which Stelling replied: “And I am looking forward to it as much as you mate. There’s a goal at the City ground but for who Chris Kamara?…”

The 66-year-old had a prolific paying career, with more than 600 senior games, and worked with Sky Sports for 24 years.

He presented Soccer Saturday with Stelling, worked on Soccer AM and hosted Goals on Sunday – becoming well known for trademark sayings such as “unbelievable, Jeff!”

However, in March 2022 he announced he had been diagnosed with apraxia of speech (AOS), a rare neurological disorder which slowed down his speech and thought processes.

Kamara stepped down that summer, saying: “My long career at Sky Sports has never felt like work. I’ve spent 24 terrific years at Sky, and leave with the best of memories.”

“My time on Soccer AM, Goals on Sunday and, of course, on Soccer Saturday with Jeff has been – to coin a phrase – unbelievable,” said Kamara.

“I’ve had the time of my life, and look forward to tuning in every Saturday as a fan.”

Among those celebrating Kamara’s imminent comeback was football presenter Laura Woods, who posted on X: “Love this!”
