The Wanted’s Max George faces surgery and Christmas in hospital after heart issues

The Wanted’s Max George is facing surgery and “a difficult few months” after tests found “issues” with his heart.

George, 36, was rushed to hospital after falling ill yesterday – and has now told fans he will remain there over Christmas while medical professionals determine “what surgery I will need to get me back on my feet”.

He wrote on Instagram: “Hey everyone, Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken in to hospital. Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart.

“I have a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems and what surgery I will need to get me back on my feet.”

The singer, who is in a relationship with former EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, added: “It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks / months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned!

“But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support by my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place.”

George said that while his health news is “a huge shock and no doubt a setback,” he counts himself “very lucky that this was caught when it was”.

The singer shared his comments alongside a photo of himself grinning and giving a thumbs up sign while in his hospital bed.

George found fame as part of boyband The Wanted, whose hit tracks included All Time Low and Glad You Came.

Tom Parker – one of George’s four bandmates – died at the age of 33 in 2022, after 18 months battling an aggressive brain tumour.
