MPL Picks Up Stake In CloudFeather To Expand Its Gaming Tech Stack

Gaming startup Mobile Premier League (MPL) today (December 10) said that it has picked up a significant stake in gaming development tools provider CloudFeather Games to fortify its presence in the gaming ecosystem.

However, the company did not disclose the financial terms of the transactions.

With this deal, MPL aims to tap CloudFeather’s gaming infrastructure solutions and deliver innovative gaming experience to its users. Besides, it will use CloudFeather’s technology stack, including server infrastructure and wallet integration systems to boost its tech capabilities.

“CloudFeather’s technical expertise will further strengthen our product roadmap and help us deliver even more innovative gaming experiences to our community of 120 Mn users worldwide,” said MPL’s chief operating officer Namratha Swamy.

MPL’s parent entity, M-League, posted a 22% jump in its operating revenue to $127.9 Mn in FY24 from $104.6 Mn in the previous fiscal year. Notably, the company’s India revenue also surged 35% to around $88 Mn in the year under review.

Founded by Sai Srinivas Kiran G and Shubh Malhotra in 2018, MPL is an esports and skill gaming platform. It offers more than 60 games across categories such as daily fantasy sports, quizzing, board games, esports, and casual games on its mobile app. The startup claims to cater to more than 120 Mn users across Asia, Europe, and North America.

This is not the first time that MPL is making acquisitions in the gaming industry. In 2022, the gaming major acquired Berlin-based GameDuell to expand operations across key global markets.

During the same time MPL also launched its mobile game development arm, Mayhem Studios. It is pertinent to note that Mayhem recently raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Lumikai.

In 2023, the company also entered the African gaming market with the launch of its app in Nigeria. For this, MPL partnered with Africa-based mobile gaming publisher Carry1st to launch its games in the continent.

While MPL has been aggressively expanding its footprint globally as well as domestically, the journey has seen some downfalls too. In 2022, the company had to let go of more than 10% of its workforce. At that time, it also exited from the Indonesian market and shut down the streaming service on its app.
