Hyundai Ioniq 9 electric SUV revealed globally: 110kWh battery pack, 620 km range! – Times of India

Korean Automaker Hyundai has finally revealed the much anticipated Hyundai Ioniq 9 electric SUV. The Ioniq 9 is now the flagship three-row EV SUV from the brand. It will first be launched in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025 and will be launched in other markets by the end of 2025. There are no any details on the India launch yet and the EV SUV will also be showcased at the LA Auto Show which will begin from tomorrow i.e., November 22.

In terms of design, the Ioniq 9 is based on Hyundai’s new design language with sleek, aerodynamic and smooth-flowing lines. At the front, it features a large closed-off grille paired with sharp and sleek LED headlamps with Parametric Pixels that give the Ioniq 9 a modern, almost sci-fi look. It has a coupe-like silhouette with SUV-like proportions which gives it a unique appearance. It features a distinctive rear end with vertically stacked LED pixel taillights.

The new Ioniq 9 measures 5,060mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,790mm in height, with a 3,130mm wheelbase. Hyundai boasts a drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd for the Ioniq 9, making it slightly more aerodynamic than the Mercedes EQS SUV. The EV SUV gets 19-inch alloy wheels as standard. However, interested customers can opt for 20-inch and 21-inch wheels as an optional extra. The EV 9 is offered in 16 exterior colour options and has seven interior colour schemes.

Moving inside, the Ioniq 9 is offered with six-seat and seven-seat configurations with claimed 1,899mm of headroom and 2,050mm of legroom in the second and third rows. The Ioniq gets massage function in the first two rows, while the second-row seats can swivel to face the third row, but only when the vehicle is stationary. The car features an adjustable console called Universal Island 2.0, which moves up to 190mm and is accessible from the second row due to bidirectional adjustable armrests. The console provides 5.6 litres of storage in the upper tray and 12.6 litres in the lower tray. With the third-row seats folded flat, the Ioniq 9 offers a boot space of up to 1,323 litres. When all three rows are in use, the boot provides up to 620 litres of space. Additionally, the front boot offers 88 litres of storage in the rear-wheel drive version and 52 litres in the all-wheel drive variant.

In terms of features, it gets twin 12-inch panoramic curved displays for instrument cluster and for infotainment system, ambient lighting, roof-mounted air vents, multi-zone climate control, 100W USB-C ports in all three rows and 8-speaker sound system. Customers can also opt for 14-speaker Bose system with 5.1-channel surround sound and the EV also features an e-Active Sound Design which uses the car’s sound system to produce the virtual driving sound of an EV. Safety wise, it gets gets 10 airbags and ADAS features such as automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, smart cruise control and more.

Now let’s talk about the battery and electric motor, the luxury EV SUV gets a 110.3kWh with claimed WLTP range of up to 620km on a single charge. This figure is for the Long-Range RWD variant with 19-inch wheels. The EV can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 24 minutes with a 350kW charger and also gets 400V and 800V charging capabilities. The Ioniq 9 also gets dynamic torque vectoring, lateral wind stability control, and a Terrain Traction Control system designed for rough roads. The Auto Terrain Mode within the system uses artificial intelligence to assess the road surface and adjust accordingly. Additionally, the Ioniq 9 is capable of towing up to 2,500kg and features a trailer mode that ensures a 50:50 front-to-rear torque distribution.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is offered in two variants – Long-Range and Performance. The Long Range trim comes with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options, wheras the Performance trim is offered only with AWD. The LR RWD variant puts out 218hp, 350Nm motor mounted on the rear axle and can sprint from 0-100kph in 9.4 seconds and 80-120kph in 6.8 seconds (claimed). The LR AWD variant adds a 95hp, 255Nm front motor, reducing the 0-100kph time to 6.7 seconds and the 80-120kph sprint to 4.8 seconds. The Performance trim, with 218hp motors on both axles, achieves 0-100kph in 5.2 seconds and 80-120kph in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 200kph (claimed).
