2025 Chevrolet Trax vs Chevrolet Trailblazer: A Family Conflict

Two competing crossovers with the same badge

Most automakers don’t cannibalize their own lineups by offering multiple models within the same class, but Chevrolet is taking a chance with similarly sized small crossovers, selling the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Trax subcompact models alongside one another. Not only are they two of the more affordable vehicles in the industry, but they also come with a rather generous spread of standard equipment. While the Trailblazer and Trax may be similar, there are a few major differences that can push consumers one way or the other.

The 2025 Chevrolet Trax is more affordable

Starting at $20,500, the 2025 Chevrolet Trax is the more affordable of the two models. The Trailblazer is available from $23,100, but it comes with a handful of features that make up for the price difference. Regardless of which model you choose, the Trax and Trailblazer earn up to 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving when comparably equipped.

Both Chevrolet crossovers offer seating for up to five passengers. Passenger and cargo space is relatively the same in both models, even though the Trax has a slightly longer wheelbase. The Trax and Trailblazer also come equipped with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes advanced safety systems like Automatic Emergency Braking and automatic high beams.

While it may be cheaper, the Trax offers features comparable to the Trailblazer, at least at the base level. Both models come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and two USB ports. While each crossover features its own dynamic styling, they both include LED headlights and various black moldings, depending on the model.

As for the major differences in equipment, the Trax comes with an eight-inch touchscreen display, a 3.5-inch driver information display, and a four-speaker audio system. The Trailblazer tops it with an 11-inch touchscreen display and an eight-inch driver information display. It also comes with a six-speaker audio system with an amplifier.

The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer packs in better performance

At a glance, the Trailblazer and Trax are comparably equipped, but when it comes to performance, the Trailblazer’s nameplate says it all. While both models come with front-wheel drive, only the Trailblazer is available with an all-wheel drivetrain. The Trax and Trailblazer both come equipped with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, but the latter has the edge when it comes to stock performance.

The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer and Trax equipped with FWD come standard with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Power comes channeled through a CVT in the Trailblazer, while the Trax gets a six-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the 1.2-liter engine can run on E85.

Opting for the AWD upgrade in the Chevy Trailblazer means getting a slightly more powerful engine as well. Models equipped with AWD come powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that puts out 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission. No matter the powerplant, it’s clear that the Trax and Trailblazer won’t be winning any street races.

At the top of the range

Much like their larger Blazer sibling, the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Trax offer two trim levels at the same price at the top of their respective ranges. The 2025 Trax 2RS and Activ are both priced from $24,500, while the Trailblazer Activ and RS are available from $27,700 with front-wheel drive.

The Chevrolet Trax 2RS rides on 19-inch two-tone aluminum wheels, while the Activ trim rolls out on 18-inch black aluminum wheels. Most notably, the 2RS gains RS badging and a unique grille, as well as a black bowtie insignia and red interior accents. The Activ trim gains unique Activ badging and interior accents of its own, as well as a black grille with chrome accents.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ takes a different approach, with 17-inch black aluminum wheels and dual-outlet exhaust. The suspension comes tuned for off-roading, supported by a functional skid plate that protects the undercarriage. The RS trim sees an aesthetic similar to that of the Trax 2RS. Unique RS badging, a black-mesh grille, and red interior accents differentiate the Trailblazer RS from lower trim levels.

Final thoughts

If you’re in the market for an affordable crossover with just enough room for a small family, it’s hard to go wrong with either the Chevrolet Trax or Trailblazer. Both models offer a good amount of space for their size, as well as plenty of trim levels to choose from. While neither model will be winning any drag races, their turbocharged engines offer just enough pep to keep daily drives at least a little engaging. If you need a crossover more suited to urban roadways, the Trax is the way to go. If you’re looking for a more adventurous model, the Trailblazer is calling your name.
