Gadget maker Sony reveals its first electric car, Afeela 1: Gets AI interface and more – Times of India

We all know Sony as a brand that makes cool gadgets such as PlayStation, televisions, mobile phones, cameras and a lot more. And now, the Japanese tech giant in collaboration with Honda has revealed its first electric vehicle, the Afeela 1. The car has been unveiled at CES 2025 and it will be produced at brand’s new manufacturing facility in Ohio, United States with, initial sales focused on California. The first customer deliveries are expected by mid-2026.

Interested customers can Pre-book the Afeela 1 by paying a deposit of $200 (about Rs 17,000 at current exchange rates), which is fully refundable, and can be made via the official website. The Afeela 1 will be offered in two variants – the Origin model starting at $89,900, and the premium Signature trim at $102,900 (about Rs 77 lakh and Rs 88 lakh at current exchange rates. Both models include a complimentary three-year subscription that provides access to select advanced features and functionalities.
Talking about the battery and e-motor, the Afleela 1 gets a 91kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with dual electric motors which puts out a combined 482 bhp of power. It has a claimed range of 483 km of range in a single charge. The battery supports fast charging with speeds of up to 150 kW. Honda and Sony have also stated that the EV is compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network for recharging.

The Afeela 1 seems to be built on the same platform as the Honda 0 Series electric vehicles. It measures 4915mm in length, has a 3018mm wheelbase, and a roof height of 1460mm. It also features a unique media bar that is integrated into the front of the bonnet, serving as an external information display. It also gets an active rear spoiler and the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) uses a whopping 40 sensors including camera, lidar, radar and ultrasonic sensors which are placed around the electric car. It has 21-inch alloy wheels and also has all-wheel drive tech.

Moving inside, the EV features a unique yoke-style steering wheel, a large panoramic display, and advanced noise-cancelling technology. The infotainment system is centered around a customizable screen, operated through the Afeela Ai voice control system. Users will have access to various apps, including Amazon, Audible, Spotify, TikTok, and Zoom.
SHM states that the audio system is designed to provide optimized sound quality for each seat, incorporating advanced noise-cancelling features. Additionally, approximately 70% of the interior surfaces are made from plant-based and recycled materials, with recycled components also used in the chassis and steel body.
