Cars and SUVs that are going to get expensive from tomorrow: Maruti, Audi, Mercedes and more – Times of India

Starting tomorrow, i.e., January 1, 2025, several popular cars and SUVs from leading automakers, including Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Hyundai Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and others, are set to witness price hikes. This move comes as manufacturers adjust to rising input costs, regulatory compliance expenses, and market dynamics. The price increase will affect a wide range of models across different segments, impacting prospective buyers planning to purchase. If you’re considering buying a new vehicle, today might be your last chance to lock in current prices before the changes take effect as some manufacturers and dealers offer a price lock option if you make the booking. In this article, let’s look at all the car manufacturers that have announced price hikes from January 2025.

Hyundai Motor India
Hyundai Motor India was among the first manufacturers to declare a price increase for all its models. The price increase will vary by model, with up to Rs 25,000 and the company states that it is due to offsetting rising input costs, unfavourable exchange rates, and increased logistics expenses. Tarun Garg, director and Chief Operating Officer, of HMIL, said, “With the sustained increase in input cost, it has now become imperative to pass on a part of this cost escalation through a minor price adjustment. The price increase will be effective from January 1, 2025, on all MY25 models.”

Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki too was among the first manufacturers to declare a price increase for all its models, including those offered through Arena and Nexa outlets. The price hike is up to 4 per cent, depending on the model and the automaker claims that it’s implementing the annual price hike in response to increasing input and operational costs. Currently, Maruti Suzuki’s Arena portfolio consists of cars like Alto, Alto K10, Wagon R, Celerio, Swift, S-Presso, Dzire, Ertiga, Brezza and Eeco. On the other hand, the Nexa lineup currently includes Ignis, Baleno, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Ciaz, XL6, Jimny, and Invicto.
Maruti Suzuki stated, “While the company consistently works to optimize costs and reduce the impact on customers, a portion of the increased costs may need to be passed on to the market.

Mahindra and Mahindra
SUV makers Mahindra and Mahindra will increase their prices from January 2025 by up to three per cent. Mahindra stated that the price adjustment comes in response to rising inflation and increased commodity prices. While Mahindra has made efforts to absorb a significant portion of these additional costs, a part of the increase will be passed on to customers.

MG Motor India
MG Motor India too will increase their prices from January 2025 by up to three per cent. MG Motor India said that the rise in input costs and other external factors have resulted in the price correction. MG Motor India’s current portfolio includes Comet EV, Astor, Windsor EV, Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV, and Gloster. In January 2025, the company plans to introduce the Cyberster, a two-door electric roadster, under its newly launched ‘MG Select sub-brand in the country.

Tata Motors
Another Homegrown Automaker that will increase the price is Tata Motors. The company will hike the prices by up to three per cent, depending on the variant and model. The automaker cited rising input costs and inflation as the primary reasons for this upward revision. Tata Motors’ current lineup includes the Tiago, Altroz, Tigor, Punch, Nexon, Harrier, Safari and Curvv coupe SUV. In the electric vehicle segment, the company offers the Curvv. Ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Tiago.ev, and Tigor.ev.

Kia India
Next is Kia India with a price hike of up to 2 percent which comes as a result of rising commodity costs and supply chain challenges, according to the automaker.

Skoda Auto India
Skoda Auto India will increase prices by up to 3 per cent. The prices of the entire range excluding the newly launched Kylaq will be affected. The company has attributed this upward revision to escalating input and operational costs. The Kylaq which was recently launched will not see the hike until it reaches the milestone of 33,333 bookings.
Stellantis India (Jeep and Citroen)
Jeep and Citroen, brands under the Stellantis India group, have confirmed a price hike of up to 2 per cent across their entire range of models. Effective from January 1, 2025, the exact increase will depend on the variant. Stellantis India stated that the decision was driven by the need to offset rising input costs and maintain sustainable operations while aligning with industry norms. Jeep India’s portfolio includes Jeep Compass, Meridian, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Citroen sells Citroen C3, eC3, Aircross and Basalt coupe SUVs.

Mercedes-Benz
Next is the Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India with a price increase across its entire model range, effective January 1, 2025. The revision will see ex-showroom prices rise by up to 3%, with the adjustments ranging from Rs 2 lakh for the GLC SUV to Rs 9 lakh for the flagship Maybach S 680.
The price hike, according to Mercedes-Benz, is necessary to address the escalating costs of materials, inflationary trends, and increased logistics expenses. While the company has been absorbing the bulk of these costs for the past three quarters, it has decided to pass on a nominal portion to consumers to maintain its operational sustainability. To ease the impact on customers, the company has announced price protection for all cars booked before December 31, 2024, including those currently out of stock. This means customers placing their orders this year can lock in current prices, avoiding the impending hike.

Audi India
Audi India will increase the prices by up to 3 per cent across its model range. The new prices will be effective from January 1, 2025, and the German luxury carmaker says that the price increase comes due to a rise in transportation costs as well as rising input costs.
Audi India’s current product portfolio includes Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi Q3, Audi Q3 Sportback, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi Q8, Audi S5 Sportback, Audi RS5 Sportback, Audi RS Q8, Audi Q8 50 e-tron, Audi Q8 55 e-tron, Audi Q8 Sportback 50 e-tron, Audi Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron, Audi e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT. Audi recently launched the Q7 facelift with prices starting from Rs 88.66 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). The new Q7 facelift is offered in two variants – Premium Plus and Technology and a single petrol engine option.

BMW India
Next is BMW India with a price hike of up to 3 per cent across its entire lineup. The price hike will impact both locally assembled and CBU models. BMW India’s portfolio includes the 2 Series Gran Coupe, 3 Series LWB, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X3, X5, X7, and M340i which are locally manufactured at a brand plant in Chennai. The CBU range includes i4, i5, i7, iX1, Z4, M5 and the entire M range of cars.
