Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the new Toyota Camry sedan in the Indian market. The new Camry features an all-new design, new interior layout, additional features, and added safety. It also has more fuel efficiency than the previous model, thanks to the next-generation hybrid system. Will compete directly with Skoda Superb. The sedan directly competes with the Skoda Superb, given its pricing, the new Camry serves as a potential alternative to models such as the Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class, and BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine. Comparing the pricing and variants first, the Camry and Superb are offered in a single fully loaded variants. The Camry will be brought to India via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and is priced at Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Camry is priced at Rs 1.83 lakh more than its predecessor, which was available at Rs 46.17 lakh (ex-showroom). The Superb on the other hand is bought in India via CBU (completely built unit) and carries a hefty price tag of Rs 54 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the sedan is priced at Rs 16.7 lakh more than the previous top-spec Superb that was discontinued.

New Toyota Camry vs Skoda Superb: Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the new Camry measures 4920mm in length, 1840mm in width, a height of 1455mm, has boot space of 500 litres and has a wheelbase of 2825mm. The Camry is offered in these colour options – Grey, Black, Dark Blue, Red, White and Silver with 18-inch alloy wheels. The Superb measures 4,869mm in length, 1,864mm in width, 1,503mm in height, boot space of 625 litres and has a wheelbase of 2,836 mm. The Superb is offered in three colour options – Rosso Brunello, Water World Green, and Magic Black with 18-inch alloy wheels.

Toyota Camry is longer than the Skoda Superb by 51 mm whereas the Skoda Superb is wider (by 24 mm) and taller (by 48 mm), the Superb also has a longer wheelbase (by 11 mm). In terms of boot space, the Superb offers significantly more (625 litres) compared to the Camry’s 500 litres. The Camry also offers more color options than the Superb, giving buyers more choices.

In terms of features, the Superb gets a 9-inch Columbus Infotainment system, powered and ventilated front seats, massage function for the driver seat, leather-wrapped gear knob, three-zone climate control, digital instrument cluster, 12-speaker Canton audio system, roll-up sun visors for rear windows and windscreen, dynamic chassis control tech, active tyre pressure monitoring system, nine airbags and more.

Moving inside, the Camry features a new interior layout and gets a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a floating 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a nine-speaker JBL audio system, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless Apple Caraplay/Android Auto, HUD display, three-zone climate control, 10-way powered front seats with heated and ventilated function, electric sunroof and more. The rear seat also features reclining and ventilation functions, controls in a rear centre console and a retractable sunshade.

Safety-wise, it gets Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite with features such as pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, automatic high beam and more. Other safety features include 9 airbags, parking sensors front and back and a 360-degree camera.

The Toyota Camry offers more advanced technology, connectivity, and safety features, while the Skoda Superb focuses on luxury and comfort, with standout features like the massage function and larger audio system. New Toyota Camry vs Skoda Superb: Engine and gearbox
The Superb will be powered by the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, TSI turbo petrol motor which puts out 190 hp of power and 320 nm of torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox which sends power to front wheels. This engine also does the duty in the Kodiaq, VW Tiguan and many Audi models in India. The new Camry is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with Toyota’s fifth-generation Hybrid System dubbed THS 5. The new model puts out 230hp of power and has claimed fuel efficiency of 25 kmpl. The engine comes paired with an e-CVT gearbox.

The Skoda Superb has more torque (320 Nm) and features a 7-speed DSG gearbox, which could provide a more engaging and dynamic driving experience. The Camry’s hybrid engine offers smooth power delivery and efficiency, while the Superb’s turbocharged engine is more traditional and focused on providing a powerful driving experience. If you prioritize fuel efficiency, the Camry is the clear choice. However, if you prefer stronger torque and a more dynamic driving experience, the Superb might be more appealing.
