Honda Activa electric scooter debut tomorrow: Design, battery, range, specs and more – Times of India

Honda Scooter and Motorcycle India are all set to reveal the new Honda Activa electric scooter tomorrow i.e., 27 November 2024. While Honda has sold electric scooters internationally, this will be the company’s first entry into India’s expanding electric two-wheeler market and also will be the company’s biggest and most exciting launch in India in a long time. When launched, the new Activa Electric will go up against Ola S1, TVS i-Qube, Hero Vida, Ather Rizta and Bajaj Chetak.

There are no details on the exterior design or the battery, range etc. The company has released multiple teasers with each revealing few details. The new electric scooter from Honda is expected to be called Activa Electric or simply e-Activa or Activa-e. The first teaser gives us a glimpse at the scooter’s headlight, under which there’s a Honda logo and it’s integrated into the apron which spans across the length.

The next teaser gave us a glimpse of its wide, long seat, suggesting ample space for two riders. The company confirmed that the scooter will come with two instrument cluster options – a basic LCD and a premium TFT version. The latter will feature two ride modes, turn-by-turn navigation, and a minimum range of 100 km. Honda also confirmed that the e-scooter will feature swappable battery technology, with two battery options available.

Both will be stored beneath the seat, which may impact the scooter’s practicality due to the large size of the batteries taking up considerable space. In another teaser, the company also showcased the charging port, located close to the footboard and the plug-and-play type charger which is similar to what we’ve seen on TVS iQube. While there are no details on the battery and e-motor, the Activa electric is expected to come with a 2.5 to 2.8kWh battery pack paired with a PMSM electric motor with a claimed range of up to 100 km.

The Activa Electric will support both onboard charging through its charging socket for home or public use and battery swapping. This dual charging approach gives Honda a competitive advantage over rivals which rely only on fixed battery systems. It remains to be seen if Honda can outpace its rivals, much like it has with the ICE-powered Activa.
